Monitor Buying Guide: 8 Tips for Choosing the Right Monitor

Buying a monitor for your team is easy when you know what to look for. If you’re new at this, though, and you’re wondering which monitor makes for an excellent upgrade to your current equipment, here are a few shopping tips to keep in mind. With expert advice, you won’t end up overwhelmed with so many options out there. Instead, you’ll have an easier time finding and buying the right hardware for your work needs.
Size
Gone are the days of bulky 15” CRT monitors. Now, screens that are as big as 27 inches are a common sight at workplaces, whether at home or the office. For some, a bigger screen makes it easier and much more efficient for them to work. With more usable space, working while your tabs and files are open should now be easy. If you’ve got a lot of open apps and platforms needed for work, you won’t have to worry about not having enough space for all that in one screen. A model like the ELE-1072 can be a good starting point for you. Adjust to a bigger one, depending on your needs.
Resolution
When you shop for a monitor, the quality of the resolution is one of the most important factors you need to consider. Poor resolution quality will hinder your work and make it harder for you to be efficient at your job. It could also lead to mistakes. On the other hand, while a sharp resolution is ideal, you need to note one thing. The higher the resolution is, the smaller everything on your screen gets. You’ll need to do your homework and figure out which options do an excellent job scaling those elements.
Video Input
Pick a monitor that is equipped with ports for a variety of video inputs like HDMI, DVI, VGA, and Displayport. That way, you can use your devices with the monitor. Connecting to the monitor is easy when it comes equipped with all the ports you need. So, check beforehand if that’s the case. Not all monitors have VGA connections, too, since it’s pretty much old school. It also doesn’t have the clarity that other connections have. Still, if you have equipment that uses a VGA connection, check if the monitor works with your device first.
Budget
How much can you spend on a monitor and how many monitors do you need? Will you get the same size and model or will you get two different types or even three? A basic monitor will save you on costs. However, if you pick one with premium features, then that will cost you more. Resolution, though, impacts the price significantly. The higher the resolution, the bigger the price tag. Keep that in mind when you shop around.
Features
Don’t forget to check the features. Some come with a touchscreen interface, curved displays and a built-in USB hub. Others also have built-in speakers, an SD card slot and higher refresh rates that are perfect for gamers. Consider which features are necessary for you before you shop around.
