There were a number of reasons why that fight is recalled as one of many good matches. The battle took devote September of 1923. The boxing world have been dominated by famous brands Port Dempsey for years. Dempsey needed the championship in 1919 and used onto it until this point.

The fight began with a surprise. Dempsey was the champion for a long time and many people only estimated him to part of and dispose of Firpo like he'd his other opponents. Firpo became more compared to fans expected as he arrived on the scene with a powerful attack.

Part of the situation in this struggle was that there was not really a three knockdown principle and there clearly was no rule requiring the opposite fighter to go into the natural part while his opponent was down. This meant that Dempsey can only stand over Firpo and await him to obtain up just to knock him down again.
