A typical bag weighs 100 pounds when packed. Boxing MMA bags come with weights from 80 to 120 pounds. In certain instances, the middle weighs a punching bag with cotton batting, sand, and presumably metal weights. A modern MMA punching bag uses some water-filled padding around a hollow heart. The water supplies much of its importance. An MMA bag’s water center gives the bag a distinct feel and shape from firm padding that fills a rugged boxing bag. Mixed martial arts burst into mainstream popularity after water core bag discovery, and practitioners adopted modern technologies. The water center is more rigid on a fighter’s hands and wrists, which is why MMA fighters will practice with the smaller MMA gloves without hand wraps.

In addition, a mixed martial arts bag would be longer and lighter than the same-weight boxing rugged bag. MMA rivalry allows for pushes and punches. A standard boxing tough bag helps to perform head and rib punches. However, the longer bag encourages a boxer to perform low-thigh kicks that are an MMA bread-and-butter pass.
