What are Dynamics 365 CE and the common data service?
Microsoft likes to upgrade product titles, and also the Dynamics suite of products has seen some name changes in recent years. We also have used new terms like modern workplaces, business applications, power platform, etc., and this may be confusing.
One of the most confusing parts of this is that the difference between Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement and Common Data Service (CDS).
Dynamics 365 Customer Engagement, previously Microsoft Dynamics CRM, formerly Microsoft CRM... is no longer really a product. But don't panic. Before we get there, let us talk about developing the solution.
The Growth of Microsoft CRM and Dynamics 365
When Microsoft started creating Microsoft CRM, the Community had to expand the software. Originally all this was done by code, but Microsoft gave us the chance to perform it in version 4 without code. This gave birth to Joint Data Service. It inherited the basic functionality of D365CE, all integrations, the security model, reports, the user interface along with the automation engine, combined together with easy access to customization and enabling users to access.

What is the Common Data Service?
The Common Data Service platform allows you to personalize the user experience by removing or adding fields, redesigning types and modifying the way data is entered. Do you have to list anything else? Create new document types in moments and collect data. Model these data demands and build relationships so that you may use them to create reports. Would you wish to automate a process? It's entirely possible. With integration into Office 365, sending emails and creating tasks or appointments is a breeze.
At the start of this article, I said that Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement is a product. This is half true Microsoft is now referring to on-premises installations like Dynamics 365 for Customer Engagement, while cloud installations are named differently. Microsoft has made the new naming conventions to correlate the applications offered with all. So in the event that you need sales in your company, purchase Dynamics 365 Sales.
