Life past RuneScape RuneScape gold Jagex's bid to build a matches portfolioAfter we visited Jagex a year ago it was on the brink of a renaissance. 'The next age of Jagex' was the line we were being fedup, and it all looked very promising.Twelve weeks later and I am back in front of CEO Phil Mansell. There has been a lot of Jagex activity in that time - in terms of brand marketing, recruiting and conferences

but small to actually show us what Jagex 3.0 is going to look like. The hints he dropped last year around new games and new initiatives have yet to manifest into anything concrete. The first half of that season was very much around getting our vision in place, working with the team, doing our market research, speaking with the business... so we can understand the lay of this land. There was rather a great deal of self-reflection, if we're honest. Thinking about that which Jagex is really good at.

That has now manifested itself into athree pronged strategyCreating RuneScape a priority for Jagex might sound obvious, however, the company has made the mistake of not looking after it earlier. During the age of that ill-fated Transformers title, RuneScape began to wane. It had become failed. Over the previous four years that has changed

including the launch of the RS gold nostalgia-tinged Old School RuneScape - and the results are plain to see.A couple weeks back we had our greatest peak concurrent user level for eight decades, Mansell shows. In terms of subscription amounts, it is the greatest for seven and a half years. Those games are moving through a true renaissance, and not just as a one off. We have had four decades of constant growth now.
