A young girl is born and raised to be an instrument of revenge.
Yuki's family is nearly wiped out before she is born due to the machinations of a band of criminals. These criminals kidnap and brutalize her mother but leave her alive. Later her mother ends up in prison with only revenge to keep her alive. She creates an instrument for this revenge by purposefully getting pregnant. Though she dies in childbirth, she makes sure that the child will be raised as an assassin to kill the criminals who destroyed her family. Young Yuki never knows the love of a family but only killing and revenge.
Lady Snowblood: Blizzard from the Netherworld stars Meiko Kaji as Yuki, conceived and born behind prison bars and raised to take retribution against the four vicious criminals who raped her mother and slaughtered the rest of her family.

Typical of the 70s Japanese exploitation genre, the film mixes stylish visuals with extreme violence, and as Yuki hunts down the guilty four, viewers are presented with stunning cinematography, masterfully staged fight choreography, and a copious amount of arterial spray and bodily dismemberment; director Toshiya Fujita even throws in some manga drawings for good measure.

An exciting finalé at a decadent masquerade ball sees Yuki despatching her final target in suitably bloody style, only to be stabbed by the vengeful daughter of one of her earlier victims. How ironic! 7.5 out of 10, rounded up to 8 for IMDb. Artists, directors, musicians, athletes, celebrities and many others throughout all walks of life seem to emulate what inspires and motivates them, whether it be consciously or subconsciously. And this phenomenon has been happening since the beginning of history. Case in point, with this movie, Lady Snowblood and the comparisons with Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill. Yes, there are many similarities, that of which Tarantino even said that Lady Snowblood was a huge inspiration for him while creating Kill Bill, as well as other movies genres like spaghetti westerns and 70's style B-rated movies. So it just makes me laugh when I see people on IMDb bashing and kicking dirt on Tarantino by making a movie from material that inspired and motivated him as a kid. Wow, I mean....if your so great, why don't you make some totally kick ass movies like Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs instead of just posting on internet forums? Just an idea.
