A black ops super soldier seeks payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission.
Freelance covert operative Mallory Kane is hired out by her handler to various global entities to perform jobs which governments can't authorize and heads of state would rather not know about. After a mission to rescue a hostage in Barcelona, Mallory is quickly dispatched on another mission to Dublin. When the operation goes awry and Mallory finds she has been double crossed, she needs to use all of her skills, tricks and abilities to escape an international manhunt, make it back to the United States, protect her family, and exact revenge on those that have betrayed her.
Watching Haywire was like revisiting a good old seventies or eighties action thriller - there were people and there was action (and the cars dropping from the bridges were cars, not the CG simulations) - on a new level. The real thrills and action were not substituted with computer generated apocalyptic conflagrations which render almost all the recent Hollywood production boringly unwatchable. David Carradine and Henry Silva were traded for Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Mathieu Kassovitz, Michael Fassbender and Michael Douglas so the deal was more than fair. The picture did not lack neither the car chase nor the rooftop jumping and in the end the final line of "oh sh*t" I am absolutely certain was followed by a magnificent roundhouse kick.
I'm certain I can say with absolute certainty that everyone is sick of seeing Angelina Jolie pretending to kick people's ass. Gina Carano is Brilliant in this film; is she an"A" actress? Not even close, is she terrible, no, for her first feature film she did an amazing job, and the stunts? well they were absolute perfection.

The star studded cast also made this film what it was, but throw in all the fantastic fights most of them do, and this film is a solid well acted flick that everyone will (should) enjoy. As generic as the storyline is, I believe it to be completely different with Carano as the lead, I think her acting made the film "feel" different and that added to the uniqueness of the film, but as much as I love her and the film, she needs to work on her acting chops but luckily she can only go up from here.

So with that this is a solid action/spy flick that has a different flavor to it that I believe will add to it success and make Gina a new action star that people will want and continue to see in future movies. This is one of the director's mainstream efforts, although his penchant for the offbeat and oddly artistic has not been completely reined in. But there's plenty of unsparing, bone-crunching violence to dismiss the idea that Soderbergh is making an art film in disguise.
Mallory Kane (Gina Carano) works for a private company that does operations for which regular government operatives can't be sanctioned. After breaking off her relationship with the company's owner, she is going to leave this company and take a lot of the business with her. Rodrigo (Antonio Banderas) comes into possession of two pieces of knowledge, that Mallory is leaving the company and that a particular dissident is vulnerable. He coordinates a plan to have Mallory abduct the dissident (she thinks she is rescuing him) and then frame her for his murder. This makes his client and the owner of the company happy. Mallory gets wise to this when she finds the dead dissident with her brooch in his hand. At this point she has a fight with Paul (Michael Fassbender) and goes on the run. Mallory makes it to her dad's house and has a final showdown with the company's owner and his guys. Aaron (Channing Tatum) realizes he's been used to chase her down when she is in fact innocent and tries to help. Mallory takes revenge on Rodrigo and Kenneth (Ewan McGregor). Haywire was filmed from an original screenplay by British-American screenwriter Lem Dobbs. The viewer is meant to be in the dark about many things in the first half of the movie, it puts you in the place of the protagonist and let's you better feel what she's going through. You discover the clues as she does, and in the end they spell it all out and fill in the missing pieces using flashbacks so you complete the puzzle just as she does. The confusion is in the editing. The time jumps, scene transitions and overall choppy flow makes the story harder to follow. The whole movie hinges on the acting skills of a Muay Thai fighter instead of the huge cast of "A" list actors. Establishing shots are not made which causes confusion as the viewer tries to figure out where the scene fits within the story. The script doesn't grab the viewer and the movie could benefit from better casting for the roles of Mallory and Aaron. This movie had good intentions but loses the audience by failing to maintain the pace of the story. There are better ways to drop pieces of the puzzle and make the premise more engaging.
