The mechanical pets are absent but there is a monologue discussing the absence of real animals in the future in the movie. Kershaw I agree that the ending is quite different but this is necessary because of the different time and character development. It should be pointed out that Blade Runner features fine casting, good special effects and has a complex storyline and premise.
