Rowan Atkinson returns to the role of the accidental secret agent who doesn't know fear or danger in the comedy spy-thriller Johnny English Reborn. In his latest adventure, the most unlikely intelligence officer in Her Majesty's Secret Service must stop a group of international assassins before they eliminate a world leader and cause global chaos. In the years since MI-7's top spy vanished off the grid, he has been honing his unique skills in a remote region of Asia. But when his agency superiors learn of an attempt against the Chinese premier's life, they must hunt down the highly unorthodox agent. Now that the world needs him once again, Johnny English is back in action. With one shot at redemption, he must employ the latest in hi-tech gadgets to unravel a web of conspiracy that runs throughout the KGB, CIA and even MI-7. With mere days until a heads of state conference, one man must use every trick in his playbook to protect us all. For Johnny English, disaster may be an option, but failure never is.

I believe this is one of the most entertaining film of history. Everything is almost perfect: timing, situation, acting, humor, character. How not to laugh to death in the Hong Kong chase sequence? In this film Rowan Atkinson is just as great as he can be. There's now weak point in this film that catch your attention as the best action blockbusters can do, but with the plus that you laugh till death. This film is even better than the first Johnny English. The story is more spy-like and the plot is much better. The camera is superb in the chase scenes and this makes the movie even more funny. All the situation of major blockbusters are here, so it looks to me like an immense parody of those action movies that seem all the same with same story and predictable ending. Here the ending is super hilarious. Jhonny English once successfully ended his mission will have to meet (like in the first film) the Queen for his reward. But this time the Queen should really fear the encounter......
He's as idiotically spy parodying as he was in the first, even if a tad wiser and more competent. He's also the same klutzy, delusional disaster. He is Johnny English, a hapless joker, who creates cheap laughs which are kiddish yet memorable.

Again, as in the first film, it is all about Rowan Atkinson here. He gives you every inch of himself in a role which is at its roots like a sophisticated, talking Mr Bean. He reaffirms why he is one of a kind as a comedy artist but also, why his work can be an acquired taste as well.

As with many of these family friendly, live action flicks which don't involve talking animals or costumed personas, the plot is absurd, far-fetched and predictable, almost as much as the first 'Johnny English', whilst also being convoluted for the younger audience the film is marketed towards. But it's this farfetchedness that creates an entertaining, comical mess which makes for fun watching. There were definitely a fair share of, as adolescents would say, 'WTF' moments, which occur to you as the result of writer's block rather than ingenious story telling but I guess younger kids won't pay too much attention to that.

The film is definitely treated more seriously than similar G to PG rated films, which makes for a unique attempt at spoof comedy, whether or not it worked. The villains were the real let down, weak, unconvincing and common unlike John Malkovich's stupid but entertaining show in the prequel to this film. A couple of the recurring gags involving one of the villains ends up being stupidly irritating after a while; as the 'baddie' just seems to be acting the same scene throughout the movie.

You can't talk about a spy flick, even a parody, without talking gadgets, cars and all the other cool stuff. Here, they were definitely shmick and eye-catching, as unrealistically deployed as they may have been.

In the end, in these sorts of movies, the story isn't of much consequence as much as how funny the characters were. Personally, I would think that watching Atkinson film the role would be an experience in itself let alone watching him on screen. There really is nobody remotely as suitable for this as him. But it comes down to how well his brand of humour registers with you. If he's your man, you won't be disappointed. If not, don't waste your time. All that matters with efforts like this is whether the cookie-cutter plotting serves up enough situations for Atkinson to contort himself into and out of jams. After all, are the narratives what you remember from the "Pink Panther" movies? Or the silly things, like that Clouseau could so easily get his finger caught in a spinning globe?
