Inside 1990s, Jacklean Davis appeared to be a policing superstar, hailed as the best crime solver while in the city. But a dispute became a major federal case against her, brought by just a prosecutor whose conduct around other cases was known as ‘grotesque’
n 22 Feb 2002, Sgt Jacklean Davis was with a walk with her inspector, Lt Samuel Lee, when Lee got a call using their commander at the seventh district in New Orleans. “The commander enquired him if he understood my whereabouts, and he or she said, ‘Yeah, she’s the following, we’re walking, ’” Davis remembers.

“I need you return back to the residence, ” Davis recalls your commander telling Lee. “You’re gonna be arrested. And really, when we pulled as long as Sam’s residence, they have four black cars along with two police units. Four black cars for the FBI agents. ”
To get more detailed than seven months, the revolutionary Orleans police department’s Criminal court Integrity Bureau, the FBI, and the US attorney with the eastern district of Louisiana were being investigating Davis and Lee around allegations that they extorted a number Florida promoters who hired them to be effective a paid detail throughout an Essence festival affair on 7 July 2001. ANY paid detail is off-duty, sometimes highly paid generate police officers, and Essence is definitely annual event that has become a Black cultural institution because first festival in 1995, sending acts like Beyoncé, Mary J Blige and Prince for the city.

Davis’s arrest effectively lost her 20-year career considering the NOPD. She was not only a veteran officer but in addition the first Black female homicide detective in Fresh Orleans’ history.
For several years, Davis was celebrated throughout newspaper and magazine profiles including Ebony, which in May 1991 asked, “Is Jackie Davis one of the best homicide detective in New Orleans’ history? ” In a very February 1992 profile for any Philadelphia Inquirer that also appeared within the Chicago Tribune – “Next halt Hollywood? The stunning existence of New Orleans’ best cop” – Davis was hailed for solving 88 associated with her 90 homicide scenarios, “a record better than any other detective and all extra impressive for the initial black woman to join a top dogs group corps of mostly light men who prodded her to fail”.
The piece also mentioned Hollywood involvement in Davis’s story from personalities like Whoopi Goldberg (none which came to fruition). After Davis’s arrest, federal indictment, and conviction inside early 2000s, a career that had shattered the brand new Orleans PD’s racial and also gender norms collapsed to the dustbin of history.
