Innovation and technology are a priority for companies even in the pandemic period

Research carried out by the Brazilian Automation Association-GS1 Brazil with support from H2R Research shows the tendency of the Brazilian business community to invest in innovation and technology to improve their processes. The GS1 standards, which are global and have the product identification barcode as the most well-known item, are considered very important to automate the processes of product sales, purchases and business management. 71% of the companies surveyed use the barcode as an identifier across their product portfolio.

It was also possible to identify that the pandemic accelerated investments in digital sales channels for 46% of the companies surveyed.
The results were compiled in December last year and the sectors surveyed were health, which includes the pharmaceutical industry and medical supplies; food, which involves processed foods, beverages, bakery, fruits and vegetables; and the industry in general considering cosmetics, hygiene, beauty, chemistry, textiles, footwear and the pet market. About 95% of the companies stated that they intend to invest at least a little in innovation and technology this year. It was also possible to identify that the pandemic accelerated investments in digital sales channels for 46% of the companies consulted.

Among the logistical benefits of bar codes are low cost of implementation, widespread use in the national and international markets, inventory management, improvements in supply, production management and precision in reading. For advantages like these, 83% of the products in circulation in the country have the barcode as standard to identify them in automated systems.

The automation of logistics processes fundamentally depends on an accurate record of all items produced by the industry to also ensure the management of the flow of documentation in all areas involved, for example, in distribution, billing, stock control, replacement in gondolas, checkout retail and others.
