Improper Concrete Installation: What to Do?

Improper installation of concrete slabs can occur due to faulty form work or wrong use of rebar. These can cause the structure to lack proper support and can prove to be a major injury causing hazard as Concrete installation in san diego well as be a catastrophic failure to property. Concrete that is used in construction is the most important aspect of a design and such defects like improper installation can are not obvious in the beginning but the affects can occur over the time. Since it's a slow process, it makes it very hard to detect and at the same time costly to correct.

For smaller issues like a sunken concrete, the commonly used repair method is slabjacking. This is done for improper concrete installations in driveways, sidewalks and swimming pool decks. In this method cement is pumped through various holes cut in the concrete slab. This then solidifies leaving a dense concrete mass in the affected places and provides a good support to the structure. Sometimes a mixture of soil, cement and lime is also used in this process, which gives stabilization and prevents the issue from recurring.

For bigger issues, the repair method used is piering. This is done for faulty foundations of houses and commercial building. In this method, mechanical jacks are used to lift and settle the beams. Once the beam is raised and held with footing, the pier is then tied to footing with steel and set deep. This helps to distribute the weight evenly and prevents creating unwanted mass.

Fixing Issues Related to Improper Concrete Installation

For small cracks and fissures in the concrete slab due to improper installation, keep the area damp for at least 24 hours and then pour a heavy paste of concrete mix into the crack. Keep it moist and cover it with a plastic sheet for at least a week. This will ensure that the area is cured slowly and is stronger after the repair.

For large cracks and any uneven slabs, which results from the under surface eroding, two methods can be applied to repair it. First is through slabjacking as explained above. This works as an adhesive to fill the voids below the surface and holds the concrete together preventing any further corrosion. This can take at least a week to completely cure and set hence any traffic on the surface should be completely avoided. Second involves completely removing the slabs. A fresh layer of gravel bed is levelled and new slab of concrete needs to be poured. This is a more expensive and time consuming method, but is definitely stronger after repair.

In order to repair the foundations installing ground metal jacks helps. In this method, 10-50 feet deep holes need to be drilled into the ground and metal pipes inserted into them. Then with the help of powerful hydraulic jacks, the foundation can be raised to the correct level and fastened by welding plates made of angle iron.
