You should have this. The gameplay is very casual and relaxing depending on map difficulty.. Even for free, it's not really worth it. It is pretty tedious to play. Instead of ONE city, you really have to make multple cities beside each other. The reason is simple, limited range of all buildings. Want to build a mine a bit of a distance away? have to build a warehouse first, have to build houses too, then have to make temple, have to make taylor, food, etc etc, it snowballs everytime. Make too many houses in one area, automatically have unemployed that can never get jobs. The tropico series is a much better city building game.. What an unerrated game. If you like old school city builders like Pharaoh, Zues, Caesar you gotta get this game.. Okay game. Buy Rome: Total War (the original) instead. Worth $2.50.. For those who are familiar with the game 'Glory of the Roman Empire': Imperium Romanum is basically the same game, with a few tweaks and new mechanics that add a bit more depth and variation to the game (but don't take long to figure out)

For those who are not familiar with 'Glory of the Roman Empire': Imperium Romanum is a city manager game situated during the Roman Empire. Your job as 'praetor' is to build up colonies into cities. You do basically three things: keep your citizens happy, keep your economy healthy, and your treasury filled.

The maps are all different locations in the Empire and can be either free build or scenario's (where you must complete tasks through a tablet system).

It is not too difficult, so you will get the hang of it after the tutorial or after a few maps. Good for casual play or players new to the genre, maybe not so thrilling for veterans.

I got it for 2 bucks on a sale and don't regret it one bit. I suggest you do the same. Nemo ante Imperium Romanum beatus est.

This game made me an expert on all things Roman. Among other things, I learned that the plebs tended to riot and burn down whole cities because they were too lazy to walk two blocks to buy lovely sausages. Also, if a Praetor threw a bunch of Denarii on a pile of wood, a building would instantly appear. Not to mention that houses could burn down if there wasn't clay or stone laying around in a random stockpile. Oh, and did I mention EVERYONE was OBSESSED with olive oil?

You'll be an expert on Roman history like me after playing Imperium Romanum.

You'll be a Praetor.

You'll be a Rough Roman.

You'll love sausages.

Buy it now!

The only thing it really lacks is a multiplayer mode, but who tf cares when you have olive oil?. I feel like this game starts to seriously lack in replayability value over time, The city building aspect is fine, I like the Upkeep system and so on, but there are many smaller things that literally prevents me in my opinion to use whatever map I deem to my wishes and build freely, Terraforming Is one of them this very feature of not being able to change the ground you wish to build on as far as I know, really keeps this title back...
And also the Military aspect of this game, is really extremely simplisic its almost ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, you have to build 20 and what not amount of barracks to just be able to have an respectively sized army, not that its an issue but you can only have 1 Squad each barrack. fine enough if you lose your soldiers in battle they will retreat and head back to their barracks, but it leads to a dissappointment with this aspect. The entire military and warfare part of this game is CHEAP!

Buildings and Varieties: Buildings and so on can't really complain about them, they do their job and it works. But just because it works dont mean it's nearly as good as It could have been, yeah yeah I know I know its an old game, but i've played older games with far more depth and refined complexity but still overcomeable aspects. To move on about it, It becomes really linear what you can do at the end of the day in this game, I feel very obstructed compared to other games, but yeah I get the vibe this game is very casual and its doing good in being casual but I would always appreciate a more depth into it all. But the gameplay and building mechanics are Good, dont get me wrong.

Performance and Stability: For me I have no issues with this game I run it on Windows 10, with relevant hardware of today with no stuttering, lag or and game breaking bugs, So far I haven't seen any direct bugs, Very Good stability A+ for a game that age well.

All In All: Yeah I can recommend the game no problem, its a good game for the price, even though I wish there were alot more to it. I haven't played the campaign myself so I might miss something important, but If you're looking for a building game that is not too expensive and is relatively okay, well this might be for you :) Thanks for reading and also keep in mind some people on the forum has some issues with the game with Windows 10. But that might be more Hardware related.. quot; Not only your competence, but also your exposure with religion and the Roman deities like Jupiter or Venus will play an important role to accomplish your mission as a Roman governor."
The patron dieties in the game: Jupiter, Ares, Mercury, Saturn, and Vulcan.
You can also build temples to Neptune, Fortuna, and Bacchus.
But, as far as I've played into the game, Venus is nowhere to be found. And, the only search results I can find online for "'imperium romanum' venus" are results for that exact same promo copy on different websites.
It's not a bad game (though controls are a bit wonky), but dropping Venus's name in the promo copy without her being in the actual game? To me, that is sacrilege--to anyone else, that's false advertising. I'd demand a refund, but since I paid like two bucks I will leave this negative review. It will remain here until I receive word of Venus actually being a patron diety in the game (unlockable or something), or there's a way to patch her in (believe me, I looked). For shame, Haemimont, for shame.. It seemed like a nice little city-building game at first, especially since it was made by Kalypso, who brought us the excellent Tropico series, which I enjoyed. Boy, was I wrong. the game itself is fine but it has one fatal flaw that entirely ruined it for me: Snowball effect. Let me explain.

Just about every building relies on other buildings, mostly houses. That means for every building you build to accomodate some citizen's complaint, you need to build a house or two nearby and sometimes, the building you need relies on another production building. And the problem stems from the evolution of houses, they upgrade automatically and so does the inhabitants' needs, which leads to YOUR need of constructing specific buildings that leech on your already bad economy. The best example are sausages. People will complain that there are no sausages so, naturally, you build a pig farm to produce meat that the butcher shop you're gonna build will make into sausages. And you basically need one house for each of these buildings, growing your upkeep needs, it's all a huge buildup of needs that only pile up until you're overwhelmed.

And you have to take into account the disasters that might hit your little community: riots, fires, plagues, barbarian attacks and so on. It takes barely 5 minutes of gameplay before that little thumb up on the left side of the screen becomes a thumb down and your citizen start rioting. It's unbelievable how impossible this game is. I saw reviews saying that this game is more casual and more forgiving than say Banished ... well for all the trouble I had with banished, I had my town last a whole lot longer than in Imperium Romanum, in which I can barely make enough production building to sustain my town, let alone build a growing economy.

Well, just like this game gives me a thumb down early because of sausage shortage, I'm giving it a thumb down too, there are much more memorable and playable city builders out there, Cities: Skylines, Tropico and Banished being three fine examples of good city builders that don't rely on overwhelming you with ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥t to make it challenging.
