Pretty cool shootup game !! very nice graphic !! Wow for a mini price its a big deal. I played the game a bit during the early early early days, and it was certainly one I was truly looking forward to.

Firstly? The graphics are pretty, the gameplay fast and smooth, and the music?
The soundtrack -is- this game, it's energetic, fastpaced and totally awesome (to my ears)

Still? I honestly don't enjoy playing the game, I found the difficulty not at all to my liking....perhaps I've gotten to old to these sidescrolling shoot'em'ups (just past 30!) , I got fed up after playing the first two levels.
Though I personally don't enjoy the game all that much (totally downloaded the soundtdrack however), I can definatly recommend it to fans of the genre.. Awesome - serious omage to games like R-Type. It deserves a 90. Just another shmup, but technically highend, no brainer, nice ost, smooth gameplay, alot of options & good gfx. Works fine with 360 controller.. This game is just wacky fun. Image playing R-Type with weapon upgrades that can be purchased between levels and you petty much know what you will be getting in the game. The fun mechanic of this title is you can use an energy weapon to kill regular targets and a physical gun to penetrate shielded enemies, so you will be changing between the two weapon types often. On top of that you can deploy a drone which shoot energy weapons for a few seconds in a stationary position, so you can be firing in two places at once, but you will be placing the drone in the correct location to kill the non shielded foes.

Did I mention you will be playing as a chicken who is gunning against the humans?
What could possibly be wrong with that???. Some levels are very annoying. They basically require you to play for several minutes till you get to the hard part, then you have to memorize each sequence coming up as it kills you and replay the whole thing to get past that point to the next part that kills you. Extremely annoying.. I didn't like the game as much as I hope I would.

Don't get me wrong; the graphics are superb, the sound & music well made, and everything seems to be in order... but not quite.There are a few -but critical- gameplay errors that entirely spoil the -otherwise very well put- experience.

First of all, the game is a bit confusing as to what it wants you to do.There are message banners across the levels, but nobody cares to read when you are surrounded by myriads of enemies and\/or you want to blow them up.After all, it's a shoot'em up, right?

The same applies to the buy menu.I simply don't understand what costs how much, what needs to be upgraded first to proceed, basically, it looks like a mixed mess of numbers, icons, bars, etc.It needs to be clean, not confusing.

Secondly, it's the power of the weapons that leads to rationing of shots.The energy weapon, that is the mainstay of your craft, is quite weak.On the contrary, the matter weapon, is faster, and deals better damage with shielded enemies.However since it's got a finite amount of shots (while the energy weapon recharges albeit very slowly) you have to be careful not to waste precious ammo by spraying fire on the level.If you do, you can easily find yourself either out of ammo, or in wiat for your weaker gun to recharge.Not good.

Consequently, you have to reserve your ammo for the shielded enemies,Which is dowright bad design in such a type of game because, you have to keep track & remember what type of weapon to use on which enemy to make the best out of your guns.All that while maneouvering to avoid enemy fire , and shooting back to a lot of small sized targets.That makes life difficult, especially during the initial levels.You may overcome this by upgrading your weapons, but the buy menu again doesnt help.

That's about it.Sorry if I tired you out with my review.

I replayed the game, still find it terrible.One thing I should add to my previous review, is that I hate the fact that the game has 4 (yes, four) different fire buttons.2 for the main guns and another 2 for the drones (yes the game allows you to have those too) -AND a special ability button-.Needless to say, how much confusing it is to remember what button to press at any appropriate time.Again bad design prevails.This control scheme was made with a console controller in mind (I think the game has native support for the Xbox device).The rest of us that play with a keyboard we can throw ourselves in front of a bus.

Hopefully Jets and Guns is released later this month, and everyone will be able to make comparisons.
