The bass is good as always, and Tim Alexander is amazing. Claypool's highlight for me is the palm-muted sweeps in Nature Boy, which are REALLY eargasmic and unlike anything I've ever heard. Herb's big moment is the drum break in The Ol' Diamondback Sturgeon, which is super enjoyable, and I can never help but replay that moment.
Finally, what makes me like this album even more is that it's the best Primus album for lyrics, without a doubt. Yes, they're not trying to be Dylan, but here, Claypool is really on top of his weird style of lyrics, because all of these song's lyrics have identifiable themes that work well and make the album feel much more interesting.
"The dogs are barking merrily as Jerry sits on high If you've studied your Floyd properly, you'd know that pigs could fly."
Moreover, something is not lost. Something that made Primus PRIMUS in their first records. And that is, hysteria. They are completely hysterical. But while they let it all out on Sailing the Seas of Cheese, here they let it boil inside them for more intense and psychotic moment. The screaming in Welcome to this World. Nature Boy (becoming hysterical at every turn). The psychotic repetition of the final verse of Bob. It works perfectly. That feeling is perfectly reflected by the screaming pig head in soda on the cover. Screaming in soda. Subdued hysteria. Yet it gets to you. Perfect.
Plus, this album has some of the best Primus quotes :
This album is different. Songs are either slow, dark or both. There's nothing like Is It Luck? or Sgt Baker on here. Yet it's not a sad album. It's still Primus for God's sake !
That is Pork Soda for me. And GOD is it good.

Also, this album has may instrumental tracks. They work wonders. Pork Chop's is super sweet and the reprise is really cool, as it gives the album an even more ch=ohesive feel. Wounded Knee is very nice, atmospheric and experimental. Hamburger Train is a killer, Primus' longest song and some mind-fcking bass work. As I said before, Larry LaLonde does some of the weirdest noises I've ever heard from a guitar. The album closes on Hail Santa and its evil Toy Pig Sounds. Yes, after Brian Wilson's Pet Sounds, Primus give us Pig Sounds. Who said this album was dark ?
My Name Is Mud is about a guy who killed another guy who wasn't nice to him. Welcome to This World is Claypool's weird worldview. Bob is about a guy killing himself. DMV is about how we have to do tons of boring shit throughout our lives. The Ol' Diamondback Sturgeon is another song about fishing, but this time from the point of view of the fish himself. Nature Boy is, uh. A teenage anthem, let's put it that way. Pork Soda is hard to pin down, but it makes fun of people and hey it's a great song. The Pressman is about a pressman. Mr Krinkle again looks at society with a slightly ironical eye. The Air is Getting Slippery is a vaudevillesque song commenting on making live shows.

Les Claypool is a genius bass player. The band's pretty damn good too. Unique. The only thing about listening to Primus captured in the studio is the format they chose here (and on all their albums) doesn't do them justice. Having heard (not seen, I'm too short to have gotten more than glimpses, but then hearing is believing, oh yes) them pull out the best live jam I've ever heard live, god-knows-how-long of rhythmic, soaring, playful, chest-throbbing music - spontaneously (I like to think it was, it sure seemed it, especially since the gig was a tacked-on extra by popular demand) - I always feel a little disappointed in their albums for not flying out there, where they really shone, stretching their musical wings into epic soundscapes, giving the prog crowd something a little meatier to magic carpet ride on.
This is Primus' best guitar album, too. LaLonde is never where you think a guitarist would be and sounds as if he's never listened to a fucking song before, just doing random shit all over the bass and drums, as in My name Is Mud or Hamburger Train. Also he plays an amazing banjo solo on The Air is Getting Slippery, and it's even better in the Woodstock 94 version.
Consistency. Consistency is when you believe all of the songs from an album deserve the same grade. When you like your least favorite song on the album almost as much as your favorite one.

Sailing the Seas of Cheese was full of fast, hysterical funk metal to headbang and scream along to. IS IT LUCK? IS IT LUCK?! IS IT LU-U-UCK .
Still, Pork Soda is a great listen. Not my favourite of theirs, but the first one I owned by them.
I realise, making this review, that we could say that is album is so good becaus eit speaks to our inner fears and the hysteria that sleeps in all of us, but it doesn't do so in a sad way. It does so in an uplifting way. So, where you goin' city boy ? Listen to that record right now !
Between Frizzle Fry and Pork Soda , what more does one need? Beautiful, absolutely beautiful. I love it. But my ex took it. That's all i have to say. Be sure to leave your shoes on the table, and keep an eye on your pork soda.
