“Sidecar” is a MacOS Catalina feature that allows users to operate their iPad as a second display along with Mac. The same feature also permits the users of iPad Pro to work on their tablet through an “Apple Pencil” but the feature is only available on the latest editions of iPods and MacBooks.
Luckily you can also use a third-party application known as “Duet,” if you have any older version of Mac or iPad. Duet allows users to use Sidecar over previous versions of Mac and creates a compatible setup to run the iPad as a second screen for Mac.
Here is how to use your iPad as a second Display of Mac through Duet. Follow these instructions to know more:
Installing “Duet” over Mac
First of all, you have to get your Duet downloaded on your Mac.
Once the download finishes, you have to double-tap on the downloaded zipped file.
Unzip the file and expand the “Duet” app file.
Note: You have to tug the file from the location where you placed it. It might be inside either the Apps or the Downloads folder.
Then, go to the “Duet” symbol and double click it to expand it.
Next, provide your positive consent for agreeing to the terms and conditions of the app permissions page.
After that, you have to add the “Helper’ tool there. For doing this, enter your device passcode and then hit the option “Add Helper.”
Now, You can take the help of “Spotlight Search” to launch the option “System preferences.” As an alternative way, you can also tap the “Apple” symbol located at the upper left-hand side edge of your display.
Then press the tab, “System Preferences.”
After that, navigate to the option regarding privacy and section in order to handle apps permissions.
Now, tap the “Lock” icon and then enter the correct password for creating modifications.
Then, hit the option “Accessibility,” and after that, mark the box located just after the “Duet.”
The “Duet” requires permissions regarding new “Screen Recording,” in case the Mac is operating on macOS Catalina.
After that, tap the box situated just after that option “Duet.”
Now, provide permission to proceed and then navigate to the menu bar.
In the menu bar, hit the “Duet” icon. This is the location where you will handle and set up all the preferences settings of the application.
Running Duet Display Over Mac
Once the “Duet” app installed on Mac, then it is recommended to buy, install, and then launch “Duet” on the iPad.
After that, plug your iPad to the Mac with the help of USB-C cord or usual USB for lightening. The display of your Mac should appear over the iPad. Now, your system is eligible for sharing display as a second screen.
You may modify and adjust various settings options if you don’t want the default one. To do so, follow these instructions:
First and foremost, you have to arrange your display. Your Duet may use the iPad’s screen as the first display.
Navigate to the “Menu” bar and then hit the “Duet” symbol there. Then tap on the “Settings” icon there.
Press the option “Display Arrangement.” The setup might be familiar with these arrangements if you have previously set up any other screen as the second display.
In case you wish to set up Mac’s screen as the first display, then you have to press and hold the available white colour rectangle icon and then tug it into the Mac screen.
Note: You can place or drag your iPads display to any location on Mac. You can also drag it to either uppermost or lowermost portions of the Mac.
You can hit the checkbox located after the option “Mirror Displays” if you wish to skip to either of the screens.
Now, your iPads display is ready to use as a second screen. You may also rotate your cursor pointer from one display to another with the help of the “Trackpad” located on the Mac.
In case you wish to deactivate Duet touch Feature located on your iPads screen, then you can do so by just following these steps:
First of all, navigate to the menu bar and then hit the “Duet” icon there.
Now, tap on the “Disabled” icon. It is located inside the section “iPad Touch Bar.”
