Like any other hardware, Canon printers and its accessories such as the toner, cartridge, etc. also require regular maintenance.

When the cartridge of the printer gets empty, you have to refill it to ensure smooth printing operation. This process needs the utmost attention as a single mistake can affect the print quality or even damage the cartridge.

To help you do that, we have provided here the step-wise procedure for the same:

1. Turn on your printer

2. Place your hand under the top panel of the printer and lift it up

a. Please note that some particular Canon printer models don’t have the top access door.

In such case, you can find the access panel at the left or the right side of the paper tray.

Pull the door forward to reach to the cartridge.

3. Check the light status on the control panel and find the empty cartridge.

4. The light will either blink or turn off in case the cartridge is empty

5. Pull the cartridge out of the printer

6. Bring the replacement ink cartridge out of the box without opening its inner wrapping layers

7. Shake the cartridge

a. For this, read the instructions given on the cartridge

8. Remove the ink cartridge and then remove the tape

9. Move forward the cartridge into empty space with its metal contact facing inwards and the

release tab facing outwards.

10. Load the ink carefully

11. Once filled, install the cartridge back to its place

12. Close the printer’s access door when the ink status light turns on

13. You can now give the test print command
