Bill Graham was a well-liked music promoter who handled many bands, organized concerts, and ultimately made many concerts venues famous. Three of these concert halls bore the title "The Fillmore." These were Graham's first area in San Francisco: "The Fillmore", his New York hall "The Fillmore East", and obviously the famous "Fillmore West", middle of the psychedelic San Francisco music and arts happening. In the 1960s, the Fillmore venues were important destinations for the most used artists of the time.

The first Fillmore area was positioned in the "Regal Hall" at the place of Fillmore and Geary in San Francisco. Graham's first concert at The Fillmore Auditorium needed place on Feb. 4th, 1966, and included Jefferson Airplane. Spectacular psychedelic gentle shows also drew supporters to the Fillmore East.

Bill Graham, in July of 1968, moved the San Francisco Fillmore area from Geary St. to the place of Market at S. Van Ness, renaming the area The Fillmore West. The Celestial Synapse, a sizable music function located by Frontiers of Technology Fellowship, needed place at the Fillmore West in March of 1969.
