In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is the process used to introduce embryos into a woman's uterus. This process has helped many couples conceive children. In IVF, the embryo is directly transferred into the uterus by surgical means, either with the aid of a laparoscope, or by way of an incision in the abdomen. The procedure involves stimulating an individual's ovulation, harvesting a follicle from the ovary, and then allowing the sperm to fertilize it in a lab. After fertilization occurs, the embryos are returned to the womb and the cycle begins again. The fertilized egg implants itself into the uterus, where it becomes part of the lining of the uterus and grows alongside the existing cells of the woman. One of the reasons IVF is so successful is because it allows infertile women to have children even when they may not have fully developed eggs. Women who may not have had enough healthy eggs to get pregnant can still have a baby with in vitro fertilization.

Once the In Vitro Fertilization process is complete, the eggs will hatch and a new life will begin. If there are any complications associated with the procedure, they are usually rare. Doctors highly recommend that women who wish to become pregnant speak with an IVF Specialist before undergoing the procedure. They are also recommended to contact them immediately should they experience any side effects or problems during or after the procedure. The procedure can be performed as an outpatient procedure and usually takes between one and two hours to perform. Patients are generally back to work and full of energy within a week or two and generally experience no pain or discomfort after the procedure.
