Overview to Kidney Cyst

Kidney cysts are round bags of liquid that accumulate in the kidneys. Kidney cysts can be correlated with severe disorders that may hamper kidney function. But usually, a type of kidney cysts is termed simple kidney cysts - non-cancerous cysts and doesn't cause any complications.

Treatment for a simple kidney cyst may not be necessary.

If a simple kidney cyst results in no indications and doesn't create any mismatch with kidney function, it doesn’t require any treatment. Alternatively, the doctor may recommend having an imaging test, such as ultrasound, repeatedly to check whether the kidney cyst has enlarged or not. If the kidney cyst gets enlarged and causes signs and indications, the patient has to choose treatment at that time. Sometimes a simple kidney cyst rids off on its own.

If a simple kidney cyst is causing any signs and indications, the doctor may recommend treatment. Options include:

• Through penetrating and draining the cyst, later filling it with alcohol. To shrink the cyst, the doctor inserts a long, thin syringe through the skin and through the wall of the kidney cyst. Then the liquid is pulled out from the cyst. 

• Surgical method to remove the cyst. A colossal cyst may require surgery to drain and remove it. The doctors use various surgical tools for the surgery of cyst.
