For all of you who quit playing or have been thinking of replaying or just messing around . yes . no one believed it would happen but it did. D2 v1.12 has been released by Blizz . talk about game support to the max, the game has been out FOREVER and Bnet is free.
Diablo 2 LOD patch 1.12 is OUT.
P.S One of those "fixes" you are talking about, is pretty "legal", you just copy the MPQ files in the Diablo folder, that's all, no crack, no nothing, so the patch only saves you about 800mb of memory not your CD ;).
Hmm weird, they bought Diablo3.com after about 8 years of activity and now they release a patch for Diablo 2 to draw attention to the series once again, a game that hasn't received a patch in years. Weird hopefully they will finally announce Diablo 3 in the NEAR future.
There you guys go, and for anyone wondering what has been added/changed/fixed. The two biggest changes atm are ladder resets and also a CD is not required anymore to play the game, yes everyone THE GAME DOES NOT REQUIRE A CD IN YOUR DRIVE TO PLAY IT ANYMORE (not including those using fixed exes anyway). GL HF everyone and just letting you all know that the game isnt . dead :D woot woot.
Expect a ladder reset a few days after everyone has had a chance to create new characters to play the new patch.

Dang it, and I just started playing it again (in SP) a couple months ago. Darn you, Blizzard, and your longstanding support! :P.

You will have to find and catch Mini-Diablo. He will then drop a figurine of Gheed, which you can trade to Gheed for a Gheed's Fortune charm. Beware! Meshif will steal it from you if he gets the chance.
Changes in the new patch for Battle.net players include:

After the success of getting the previous patch to work, Blizzard Entertainment is already moving ahead with a new patch. Patch 1.12 will pick up where Patch 1.11 left off and promises something for everyone. A Blizzard VIP told us that, "We want to make it clear that we haven't abandoned—what's the name of that game again? Oh yes, we want to make it clear that we haven't abandoned Diablo . And I believe that already Diablo II is already in the early stages of development. Anyway, this patch should make both realm players and single players happy."

Fixes to most of the things screwed up in the last patch.
