Here are the Top Things to Do in Florida's Key West

Key West is the gold at the end of the Florida Keys rainbow, so there's plenty to do when you finally reach it. From Key West tours to photo-ops at the southernmost point in the continental US, the island has something for the whole family.

If you only have time to see one thing in Key West, we recommend Mallory Square. Located at the northwestern corner of the island, the square is full of shops, souvenir stands, and plenty of local color. If you find yourself there in the evening or late afternoon, make sure you stay until the sun goes down. Mallory Square is famous for its sunsets, which are considered to be some of the most beautiful in the entire world. As an added bonus, you might just find yourself in one of the square's famous festivals or parades.

If you're interested in literary history, Key West has been home to a wide variety of writers and artists. The most popular museum on the key is the former home of Ernest Hemingway, where he wrote A Farewell to Arms, Death in the Afternoon, and For Whom the Bell Tolls. If Hemingway isn't your speed, you can also visit homes owned by Tennessee Williams and Robert Frost, as well as historical figures like Harry S. Truman and John Audubon.

Prefer to get out of the city? Key West is also home to a ton of great little beaches and swimming spots. Personally, we recommend Higgs Beach for families, Smathers Beach for swimming, Dog Beach if you have a furry friend with you, and a boat trip out to Dry Tortugas Beach for some romance away from the island.
