If you are thinking of buying a guitar for children, we give you some clues so you can choose it well. There are some things you should keep in mind when buying it and many possibilities.

Here you will also find some recommendations according to the child's age. What guitar size is best suited for children 5 years and older? For children 6-7 years old, we will choose a 1/4 guitar for children. We give you some ideas if you are thinking of buying a children's guitar.

As in all instruments, there are different constructions, finishes and qualities. The guitar for children of 1/2 is a children's guitar suitable for children who measure around 1.20m. It will help you if the child is between 8 and 12 years old.

There is one more guitar size, suitable for preteens or for people with small hands. It's about the 7/8 guitar, which as its name suggests is almost a normal-sized guitar.

If you are looking for the first guitar for a 5-year-old, the best option may be to buy a toy guitar. The guitar is a precious instrument and it is easy to produce sounds with it. If you are a guitarist, sit down with him to play and you will see how he immediately starts to imitate you.

There are three types of guitar: the classical guitar or Spanish guitar for children, the electric guitar and the acoustic guitar, which goes with metal strings but has a sounding board. There are the same guitar models for children.

You may be tempted to buy an electric guitar for a child, but you have to assess some things before doing so. Electric guitars only sound if they are amplified and their strings are very thin. A child less than 7-8 years old could get hurt by playing it.

Therefore, especially to start playing we recommend that you acquire a classical guitar, also known as a Spanish guitar. It will be easier for you to pick it up and play.

In addition to that, classic guitars are softer to play, sound better even if the child does not have the nails well-trimmed because the strings are thicker and there is a wider range of models, prices and qualities to choose from.

When choosing between one guitar or another, you have to take into account the child's age, but above all its height. Whatever guitar method you have chosen, you have to be able to play comfortably to learn.

The proper size of the guitar is proportional to the height of the person. It is more important that you take into account the height of your child than his age.

The size of a Spanish guitar is measured in fractions (1/4, 1/2, 3/4, 7/8, 4/4) and affect practically all the elements of the guitar: from the neck to the size of the guitar.
The standard size is 4/4, and can vary considerably according to the manufacturer.

This is the reference that is shown in the guitar sizes table:

1/4 guitar for children up to 110 cm
1/2 guitar for children up to 125 cm
3/4 guitar for children up to 140 cm
7/8 guitar for children up to 150 cm
4/4 guitar for children taller than 150 cm

As we have seen, the size of the guitar should be proportional to the height of the person. Therefore, a small child needs a guitar of smaller size than the standard one.

It is also a good idea to have a normal size guitar at home so that the little ones can get used to their size too, even if they can not play it with such comfort.

When the child is gaining height, you can make the jump to a larger instrument more naturally. The instrument will remain small, and you can decide if you keep it as a souvenir or if you sell it in a used guitar market.

There are some very popular guitar brands that have been building guitars for children for many years. For example, Yamaha guitars have very good construction and quite competitive prices.

In the case of electric guitars for children, not only do you have to take into account the size but also the accessories. A cool thing about these guitars is that they come with predetermined songs that will help your little one to create beautiful melodies without effort.

They also have some sound effects and sometimes also lights, for more fun. As you can see, children's guitars are toy imitations of electric guitars for adults. So the electric guitar for children is a perfect instrument for the little ones to begin to familiarize themselves with songs and melodies.

Guitar models for the little ones may not have strings and, instead, have colored buttons that emit sounds. They serve more to make symbolic play than to learn to play the instrument.
