Alright, well, from "I only have dual-layer DVDs", my understanding is that you also tried burning 10.4.x Tiger on a dual-layer DVD, which I'm not sure would work.
I actually just got the battery a few weeks ago, but with everything I was doing something could’ve gone haywire. I just replace the entire motherboard. I have no idea why all of a sudden the power stopped working, I was just using it last night.
OS X Leopard doesn't work Hopefully I didn't burn too much DL DVDs. The others OSs work perfectly fine.
Mount the new disc to check. It should have multiple files on it.

I'm using macOS Sierra.
1.: Extract the Tiger_4_6.dmg.zip on a Mac (i used OS X 10.5.8) with the built in unarchiver (don't use 3rd party apps) 2.: Command-Click on the Tiger_4_6.dmg -> Open With -> Disk Utility 3.: In the window Command-Click on the image file -> Convert "Tiger_4_6.dmg" 4.: Now select the destination where to save and the Image Format -> DVD/CD master 5.: You'll get a 3.53GB image file with a CDR extension, which is just a ISO file. So you have to rename it to Tiger_4_6.iso 6.: Now you copy the image file over to a Windows PC and burn it to a DVD-R disc (i used a old TDK DVD-RW @ 2× burn speed) with a decent program (i used Nero 8). 7.: With this method it should boot with the disc flawlessly, i had no problems with the installation. Good luck!

Another nagging possibility is the various disc "drivers" were dropped from the disc image, I haven't checked the download. I would use OSX Terminal with the disc mounted then type "diskutil list". Maybe you don't have OSX and need OS9 to perform the same test? My computer G4 can install from discs missing the driver set, but your G3 is so much older that maybe yours needs these drivers. I wouldn't use driverless discs anyway on my G4 because it could let the OS appear to run but have minor detail misbehaviours due to missing disc drivers when installed. One of the OSX install disc driver partitions is in excess of the standard set, the extra partition is named "Apple_Driver_ATAPI" and my Tiger nonspecific DVD has a "4KB" Apple_Driver_ATAPI. It happens a lot that people share copies not containing the driver partitions. I'm not sure how .toast handles them, or the .toast could be an image of a copy, not necessarily the image of an original. Check for them.

I edited my last msg so hope your getting all this. Sounds like maybe you need a pram battery, pram reset, or pmu reset. My Mirror Door G4 runs without any battery, has no clock set on powerup, whereas a weak low voltage battery might choke the system. Your G3 may or may not require a charged battery.
After a lot of kernel panics trying to run the installer 10.4.6 (Tiger 4 6.dmg)on my G5 (Powermac 11,2) (Burn a copy on a different system, clone the image to a small partition etc..), the only thing I didn't test was burning a DVD on the G5 burner which has Leopard installed. Went ahead and burned it, then it worked!! Succesfully installed Tiger now..
@nd2003grad, my Tiger Installer disc says in its system requirements that a Firmware Update on the computer might be necessary to make the install work, and, mactracker says Firmware Update(s) were issued for the B&W pmg3.

Might be easier to use Toast. I will do some testing and get back to you.
Didn't have more time than to upload the image, it's something thats requested every now and then since DL DVD's seem to be harder to find, and are a bit more expensive. As usual, all the extras need to be unticked before attempting to install.
It should be installable on any machine that supports Panther.

That is all correct. I do have a hub and an extension due to logistics on my tower. I'll try with those things directly plugged in and see if that changes anything. Yeah, it works on OS9 and I just want to have x as a supplement.
Hi, @papjco. In order for me or others to potentially help you, I have some questions:
- Did you try ISOs of 10.4.x Tiger yet? They may be burnt on a single-layer DVD, or multiple CDs, depending on the ISOs. It may be worth a shot before attempting 10.5.x Leopard.
Mac OS X Internal Edition - ( Download #1 )
@sfp1954, I don't recall having any such ZIP issues on Windows, especially for ISOs and DMGs (and any other image file that doesn't require resource forks). On Mac, both the built-in ZIP tools and The Unarchiver also seem to handle everything correctly.

I have seen to run into an issue though. I have gone through several DVDs and I can’t seem to make my 10.4.6 dmg bootable. I download it, extract it from zip, and then burn in disk utility. When inserting into my iBook, the optical drive never even spins long enough to tell me it is bootable or that a disc is inserted, it just ejects. The optical drive plays normal DVDs just fine though. When reinserting to my daily Mac, it reads the disk as a Tiger install DVD. Any idea what’s happening? I’ve read some comments about the DMG needing to be locked. not sure if mine was locked when I burned.
So I have no clue how to make an actual Panther/Jaguar bootable disc. Disk Utility (the new one) says that both sets of images aren't bootable. And I've tried the discs on my iMac G3 and it doesn't restart. Any help would be appreciated!

For example, if you have a FireWire partition, you can use Disk Utility to "burn" the Leopard installer into that partition (or, really, it could even be in a partition within your internal hard disk), and then boot from that to then actually install Leopard, onto another partition. Then you can wipe off clean the partititon you temporarily used to do this install.
Does anyone know what's up with the "Mac OS X Panther 10.3 - Apple Internal Edition DVD"? Is it just a compilation of all 3 installation CDs? Does it work on all machines compatible with Panther? I've searched for information on it rigorously, but found nothing. I'm just curious, is all.
I have also the 10.5.6 DVD, so I'm not sure it is absolutely necessary to upload it. Unless it is really requested.

Well I was trying to check into that and now the power won’t even work after I just got the whole thing figured out otherwise. Very frustrating.
Leopard requires a dual layer DVD. Unless you can find a DVR-R DL blank you'll probably need to use a +R blank and boot from an external FireWire drive that supports DL +R disks. At least that has been my experience with older machines.
Hopefully you'll get your Mac up and running soon!
What machine/OS are you burning it on and does it mount fine on that machine? Are you using a +R or -R DVD blank? Not all older Apple combo drives read DVD+R.
Yes it is bootable. But it is extremely fussy. Do not use ImgBurn for this one. You need to use Disk Utility for Mac OS X on it and burn to dual layer DVD+R or USB thumb drive.
Also, just for your own ability to troubleshoot problems with that Mac in the future, I'd like to let you know the dual-processor (DP) Mac you own is an early 2005 model, based on the description and model ID/number (PowerMac 7,3). The late 2005 models were, instead, all either dual-core (DC) or "Quad Core".

Thanks for the reply. I am not exactly sure what was up but I just went for the CD install and it worked perfectly. Now I have Tiger on my clamshell iBook!

Creating a Tiger DVD in Sierra/High Sierra. Download the .dmg.zip from MEGA using Chrome or Firefox. Check to make sure the .zip is set to open with "Archive Utility" (Use Get Info). Double click to unzip. Resulting file should be 2,736,309,106 bytes.
You MUST burn physical copies of the disk images. (You can't just copy the .dmg to a CDR). Double click once in OSX to unzip. Do not use third party utilities. In older versions of Disk Utility drag the .dmg file into the lower left corner of Disk Utilty. Click once on it to select. Insert blank CDR. Click the BURN button.

I have Mac OS X Leopard Install DVD and Mac OS X 10.5.6. Should I upload this Mac OS X 10.5.6 DVD ? Do you have this already on your page ? Is Single DVD Leopard install.cdr is Mac OS X 10.5.6 ?
I used poweriso and transmac. i tried tiger using poweriso and it didnt work. couldnt read it at all on windows or the powermac. i only have dual layer dvds. thanks @Jatoba.

Extract the .dmg using built-in OS X Zip Utility Immediately check it's locked status ensuring the image is locked before doing anything else with it. Start up OS X Disk Utility and drag the locked .dmg icon into the lower left part of the Utility's window to add it's name to the list of disks. Click "Burn" and insert blank DL DVD into burner, when requested.
You can also use the four CD Tiger set.
thanks, but I was on a "chicken/egg" situation, no blank DVD DL and my mini's HDD was reformatted. I thought I had the 10.5 DVD, but alas no, so the win10 PC was the only way to make the DVD (mind the mini's combo drive does not support DL) BTW, I found the solution: I d'loaded the 10.5.4 (8GB image) then using TransMac on PC I restored it on a USB/Firewire external HDD, then used that HDD to install on the mini G4.

Hey Guys, I have PowerMac G5 (DP 2.0Ghz 4Gb ram late 2005), that I need to install Mac OS on because their was no hard drive so I had to put my own in. Anyways, I tried the 10.5.6 iso and it gives me the error "Unable to find driver for this platform: "PowerMac 7,3". I tried the 10.5.4 dmg using TransMac (expanding first then burning) and it errors out and doesn't burn correctly. (I don't have a Mac besides the PowerMac, i was using a custom Windows PC I made) Thanks for the help!

I would start with the 10.4.6 DVD as I believe that only requires a single layer DVD and the pre-installed OS is show as 10.4.2. I don't think you can properly expand a 4+ GB file zipped with MacOS compression on a PC can you? I know people have trouble decompressing such files even on a Mac when they make the mistake of using a third party program rather then the built in Mac compression utility.

Right click or option click on the .dmg. Select "Burn Disk Image Tiger. to Disc. Insert blank DVD-R (don't use DVD+R). Follow the instructions or Open Toast Click the Copy Tab. Choose "Image File" of the three options. Click select and choose the .dmg file. (Do not double click the .dmg file). Insert DVD-R blank. Click the red Copy button.

Except that is Ctrl-Click instead of Command-Click.
In Mac Help: To burn a disc image (.dmg file) to a disc, Control-click the disc image file, choose “Burn Disc Image [disc name] to Disc” from the shortcut menu, then follow the instructions.

Mac OS X 10.5 Single Layer DVD - ( Download #35 ) Basic OS install, no extras included as to fit on one DVD.
The Panther Internal Edition is the full installer for Panther given to Apple employees, it contains additional tools and applications. I believe there is also a CD version of this but I have been unable to locate it.

I imaged on a DVD-R on my PC using the ImageBurn from your site, still on boot (startup) its not recognised.
I have myself verified the upload from fogWraith. The Single DVD Leopard is Mac OS X 10.5.4, but it takes less space than a standard version. May be that's why he has uploaded it.
It's good you are trying out the "single-layer Leopard DVD" download from here, provided you use a single-layer DVD with it. But in case that fails, here is one suggestion:
Mac OS X Puma 10.1 - ( Download #6 - #12 ) 10.1 Installer 10.1.3 Installer 10.1.5 Updater iPhoto 1 iMovie 2 iTunes 3 - iMovie 3 - iPhoto 2 Requires Mac OS 10.1.5 Developer's Tools for 10.1.

@Jatoba im trying the single dvd leopard right now.
Also, don't worry, both .DMGs and .ISOs can be burnt correctly onto discs via Windows, with the correct tools and options. For ISOs, the general go-to option is ImgBurn. For DMG, if a Mac is not available, I personally use UltraISO, which is also a free to use/try program. To avoid headaches, whenever I can, I give preference to ISO files, across all platforms.
That's how I got a bootable DVD written with this .dmg. Plus, I burned it to DVD+R DL media.
That's pretty neat, then. Thanks!

It'd be fine to get the 10.5.6 DVD as well, if you want to upload it.

Try downloading the three 10.4 Tiger CDs (instead of the DVD version) and try burning those onto CDs, and use those instead. I'm not sure if it relates to your problem, but some of my G4 Macs have some trouble detecting DVDs, especially dual-layer ones, whereas CDs are detected all the time.
Many if not most of the PPC G4's and G5's can be restored to Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger via a 4 or 8 GB USB drive. (Depending on the size of the DMG, No need to "burn" an expensive dual-layer disc). When you format the USB drive make sure you use a Mac Journaled partition with Apple Partition Map selected. (not GUID or MBR as PPC don't/can't recognize them.) Mount the image by double clicking the Tiger OS X DMG. Then using Mac OS X built in Disk Utility right-click the recently CORRECTLY formatted USB Drive you created from above and select "restore from image" (or something like that I'm at work and not in front of my Mac). When restoring the disc image use the image you "mounted" and not the DMG file itself (just seems to work better and not fail the "checksum" part of the restore). It will take quite a while but if it completes it successfully you should be ready to rock. Then boot your Mac while holding down the "option" key and then select the USB drive (hopefully it recognizes it) I have restored multiple PPC Mac's to Tiger using this method. Which includes vintage Macs from G3's, G4's and G5s.
@Jatoba i tried burning the tiger DVD to a dual layer DVD and it worked! Thanks for the help! Anyways i am now trying to burn a Mac OS X Leopard disk and it keeps giving me error "Unable to burn "name.iso." (0xE00002CA)". Tried the 10.5.4 dmg and the 10.5.6 iso and both do the same thing.

Especially my DA G4 733, though it did take DVD minus Rs just fine, but not plus. I got so confused first time around.
I burned successfully a bootable Tiger DVD for a PowerBook G4 on a Windows PC this way:
How are you extracting from .zip? You must use Apple's built in compress utility. ie just double click on the .zip file in OSX. If you've set up a third party app as the default unzip app you'll have to change back to Apple's built in utility.

Sure guys the Single_DVD_Leopard_Install.cdr is bootable? I am unable to boot it on my mini G4 (A1103). I imaged on a DVD-R on my PC using the ImageBurn from your site, still on boot (startup) its not recognised.
Is there any extra info about the last file for downloading "Single_DVD_Leopard_Install.cdr"? Sorry, just realised the last post is about a single layered Leopard install DVD with the extras taken out.
Firewire must be built in. If you get the machine running again I would start with an earlier OSX (ie 10.2) and try to upgrade from there. I would not run Tiger on anything less than a 400MHz machine.

It's a 450. I did get it running again; there was some sort of power problem that I still don't understand but was able to fix (appeared to be some sort of contact short). Same result with Tiger. I'll try what you said!

Are you sure your target computer can read and boot burnt DL discs? Not all Apple computers can. Most G4 Powerbooks cannot.
What version of OSX are you using?

- What program did you use to burn the ISO on Windows? Did you use a dual-layer DVD instead of single-layer? (Dual-layer is usually required for 10.5.x Leopard.)
@papjco Did you try ImgBurn and UltraISO yet? Well, even if not, now that you have Tiger up and running (congrats!), you also have the option of using Mac OS X tools to help.
