Time travellers from the 23rd century return to 1992 to warn Japan that Godzilla will cause a catastrophic nuclear incident in the 21st century and suggest a way to rid the world of him forever. They intend to go back to 1944, to Ragos Island, where a dinosaur was exposed to radiation from the Bikini H-Bomb test and became Godzilla. Upon completion of this task, King Ghidrah appears in 1992 and the visitors' true plan is discovered. They wish to destroy Japan so it will not become the dominant economic force. Luckily for the Japanese, Godzilla was still created and will now fight Ghidrah.
In this sequel to Godzilla vs. Biollante, time-travellers from the future warn that Japan will ultimately be destroyed if the monster Godzilla can't be neutralized. They reveal the circumstances of Godzilla's origin: a dinosaur who survived into the 20th Century (and who inadvertently saved a group of Japanese soldiers from American forces during World War II), only to be mutated by atomic testing on his island home. The future people have an audacious plan: to remove the pre-Godzilla dinosaur from his timestream and prevent his mutation. However, things take an unexpected turn, resulting in the creation of a new horror--the three- headed dragon King Ghidrah.
I think this is one of the best Godzilla movies made. Godzilla's origins are finally revealed in this film: a prehistoric dinosaur, dubbed Godzillasaurus, helps a Japanese army defeat their opponents during World War II in 1944 and, 10 years later, mutates into Godzilla after an H-bomb explodes on the island. 47 years later, 3 people from the future called Futurians warn the people of Japan that Godzilla would soon destroy their country completely. So, they decided to bring along three advisers to go back in time to 1944 with them and help tele-port Godzillasaurus away from Lagos Island and into the Bering Sea so he won't get mutated by the bomb. Pretty clever. *maybe a spoiler ahead* However, the Futurians unleash three Dorats (dragon-like creatures) to be exposed by the H-bomb, so 47 years later in 1991, it could mutate in the new-improved King Ghidorah. They plan to use this monster to destroy Japan to prevent the country's future domination. On getting rid of Godzilla, there's nothing powerful enough to stop King Ghidorah.

Yet, the Godzillasaurus was mutated into a new-improved (and larger) Godzilla after a Russian nuclear submarine crashed into it in the Bering Sea. Soon, the two monsters meet and...you let the idea now. It's a fast-paced and pretty good story, although there are some plot holes. Miki Saegusa returns, played a very active role in this film. My favorite part of her in the movie is when she stood on a balcony of her psychic institute and watches, dazed, at the UFO soar across the sky. Also, what's good is the return of composer Akira Ifukube, who wrote a very moving and inspiring score for this film. Some of his music maybe repeated excessively, but it is still enjoyable. One key part of this story is when the character Shindo recognizes Godzilla as the same dinosaur who saved his army on Lagos Island in 1944. When Godzilla arrives to battle King Ghidorah he says: "He'll fight for us again, our savior has come back to protect us." This reminds me of how Godzilla was the "hero" in the 1960s and 1970s Godzilla films. This movie is a must-see for G-Fans.

Grade A Personally out of all things good in the Godzilla Franchise, I actually didn't like this film at all... Sorry, It felt slow, dull and boring and overall the time travel aspect of the film didn't work for me, it has not got the (back to the future) Vibe to it, it does not have the feel that I enjoy of a Godzilla film, I refuse to say I like it because I just don't! the characters don't do it for me and even though we have MIKI and she's cool as always but the others really don't do it for me. There's only a few Godzilla scenes and for me personally (I know I sound like I'm bitching) but, I just believe there's not enough Godzilla scenes in the film...Something doesn't feel all too right and I'll tell you now, there's one scene involving this guy who THINKS Godzilla's his friend and...well, You just have to see it! Lol. Anyway, this film is OK, 3/10.

Yes, and no. The creature is three headed like King Ghidorah, with very Chinese dragon-influenced faces (like Ghidorah) with two wings and many other strongly relations to the Japanese original. However, this incarnation possess none of his powers, and apparently its only use is as a mode of transportation. Whether a blatant rip-off or paying homage to the beloved Godzilla franchise character, the director Stephen Sommers has not commented. In this film, King Ghidorah could use his powerful necks to strangle Godzilla. After being reconstituted as a cyborg, Mecha-King Ghidorah lost that ability but was equipped with several electrified manacles and the G-grasper, a mechanical harness mounted on its chest plate. Yes, sort of. Unlike most movies that have an black backdrop during the credits, Heisei Godzilla films had special footage that played during the credits. In this one we see the thought to be dead Godzilla rise and roar menacingly at the audience from his watery grave, and the monster King then snarls as the waters churn.
