JERUSALEM Kirk Gibson Jersey , June 10 (Xinhua) -- Hundreds of African asylum seekers took the streets of Tel Aviv in Israel on Saturday night, protesting a new law that deducts 20 percent of their salaries.

Under the new law, which came into effect on May 1, a fifth of their salary is required to be deposited by the employers in a state-run fund. The money would become accessible for the migrants only if they leave Israel.

The march was attended by asylum seekers and their Israeli supporters, including many restaurant owners, who are the main employers of asylum seekers in Tel Aviv.

The protesters waved signs and placards reading "it's impossible to survive with 20 percent less" and "we fled a war, left with nothing."

According to official figures, as of the end of February, there were about 22,000 asylum seekers in Israel. The vast majority of them arrived from Eritrea and Sudan.

Israeli law and international conventions do not allow sending them back to their countries of origin, where they might face persecutions and even death.

The recent law is the latest measure that the government said it has employed to "persuade" the asylum seekers to leave the country.

In 2012, the parliament approved a government-led legislation, known as the "anti-infiltration law," which criminalized asylum seekers' entry to Israel.

The government also built a detention center for them in a remote region of the Negev Desert in southern Israel, called Holot, where they can be held indefinitely.

DUBAI, May 31 (Xinhua) -- Dubai launched on Wednesday an initiative to ensure cyber security among "establishments and residents" in the city, United Arab Emirates (UAE) daily Gulf news reported.

At the launch in Dubai's business skyscraper Emirates Towers, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, said it is necessary for Dubai to develop a comprehensive defense strategy against hacker attacks.

According to Sheikh Mohammed, his government wants "to harness technology to create a new reality in Dubai and a different life, a new model of development."

Based on five pillars, the initiative will be achieved by implementing cyber smart technology, innovation, cyber security, cyber resilience, and collaborating on a national and global level, he said.

Dubai has the most diversified economy in the Gulf Arab region, according to the Washington-based bank association Institute of International Finance. Most of the world's Fortune 500 firms run offices in the city.

The launch of the cyber security initiative comes weeks after the ransomware virus "WannaCry" paralyzed millions of institutional and private PCs across the world, with the UAE not being affected, the UAE daily The National reported on May 13, quoting the telecommunications regulatory authority TRA.

The State Department revealed Friday it has been quietly offering a $10 million reward to help track down the militants behind last year's deadly attack on a US mission in Libya.

The brazen assault in Benghazi cost the lives of four Americans, including ambassador Chris Stevens, with the fatalities and disputes about what unfolded at the diplomatic base causing fury in Washington.

A State Department spokesman told AFP that its Rewards for Justice program has since January been offering up to $10 million "for information leading to the arrest or conviction of anyone who was involved in the September 2012 Benghazi attacks."

The reward was not widely publicized when it was first made available, because of what the Department called "security issues and sensitivities surrounding the investigation."

"Since this event happened... we've made it clear that we are committed to bringing the people who conducted this attack to justice. And we're using all the appropriate tools we have to do that," the spokesman said.

The reward on offer "was for anyone who was involved, not for any particular individual," added the official, who asked not to be named.

Hordes of heavily armed militants stormed the mission on September 11 last year and then attacked a nearby CIA compound with mortar shells and rockets.

Ambassador Stevens was killed in the hours-long firestorm along with three other diplomatic and security staff -- Sean Smith, Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods.

Stevens, a popular diplomat and fluent Arabic speaker, was the first US ambassador to be killed while on duty in three decades, and the assault shocked America and the close-knit diplomatic family.

Initially, the sacking of the mission was described by American officials as having been triggered by an anti-Muslim video aired in the United States which sparked protests a.
