Former Suns players support firing of Ryan McDonough: 'Bout time'

The Suns fired general manager Ryan McDonough on Monday, bringing an unexpected end to his five-year run while using team. A few former Phoenix players feel this move ought to have come much sooner.
McDonough's departure is surprising given the NBA Live Mobile Coins timing — the Suns' season opener is on Oct. 17 — but Nets forward Jared Dudley, who played in Phoenix from 2008-13 and 2016-18, supported the shift of power from McDonough to vice chairman of basketball operations James Jones. The three-time NBA champion will split GM duties with assistant general manager Trevor Bukstein.
Markieff Morris spent the very first five-plus seasons of his career while using Suns, but he clearly doesn't need fond memories of his years with McDonough. Morris responded Dudley's tweet and offered a short assessment.
Former Suns point guard Mike James, who averaged 10.4 points and 3.8 assists in 32 games using the team last season, didn't think McDonough was the "right person with the job." Despite never playing alongside Morris, he'd similar feelings about McDonough.

It similar missing on draft picks, executing poor trades and losing the confidence of ones own players just isn't a recipe for achievement. But don't worry — all is well in Phoenix!
