With the advent of international competitions such as the european cup, the southern european style spread to the rest of the continent and by the end of the decade the heavy shirts and boots of the pre-war years had fallen entirely out of use. The 1960s saw little innovation in kit design, with clubs generally opting for simple colour schemes which looked good under the newly adopted floodlights. Designs from the late 1960s and early 1970s are highly regarded by football fans.

Although it is thought that watford played in turquoise jerseys in the 1930s, the evidence is scanty, all club records for the period having been destroyed. Recently, however, I was sent a scan of a programme from a match between queen's park rangers and watford which confirms the visitors' unusual colours. As I looked into this I came across two photographs that may show the jerseys in question worn in and . In the course of my digging I came across this rather fine colourised image of the team wearing their splendid red, green and yellow jerseys in . Rochdale ( socks corrected), lincoln city ( corrected), greenock morton ( umbro trim added to shirt; the rarely worn adidas shirts from were matched with their regular umbro shorts), grimsby town , west ham united ( , shorts trim corrected),().

Initially, almost all teams wore knickers of a contrasting colour to their shirts. In 1909, in a bid to assist referees in identifying the goalkeeper amongst a ruck of players, the rules were amended to state that the goalkeeper must wear a shirt of a different colour to their team-mates. Initially it was specified that goalkeepers' shirts must be either scarlet or royal blue, but when green was added as a third option in 1912 it caught on to the extent that soon almost every goalkeeper was playing in green.

I am grateful to john disson, whose family have supported queen's park rangers since the 1890s, for sending me an article he wrote for the club to mark 50 years since the reintroduction of the teams signature broad hoops in 1960. This is a year later than I had previously thought and is confirmed by this photograph showing the team wearing the nondescript white jerseys introduced in 1953. The designs of the jerseys were released back in may, but fans were today given a look at the shirts in the flesh. Both new shirts feature a sash design as part of the club’s 135th anniversary- saints had them in their kits back in 1885. The home jersey is predominantly red with a white sash, and will be paired with black shorts and red socks.

In 2002 the cameroon national team competed in the african cup of nations in mali wearing shirts with no sleeves, but fifa later ruled that such garments were not considered to be shirts and therefore were not permitted. Manufacturers puma ag initially added "Invisible" black sleeves to comply with the ruling, but later supplied the team with new one-piece singlet-style tops. Fifa ordered the team not to wear the tops but the ruling was disregarded, with the result that the cameroon team was docked six points in its qualifying campaign for the 2006 fifa world cup, a decision later reversed after an appeal.

The club also unveiled a new goalkeeper jersey that ben foster will wear under the sticks in 20/21. This is the new watford home kit 2020/21, watford’s new home strip for the upcoming championship season. Made by kelme, the new kit was officially unveiled on 13 august, 2020 by the hornets. This is watford’s first uniform to be made by new technical partners kelme after choosing to part ways with adidas, and the spanish firm have gone for a rather unique look for the vicarage road outfit. Lcs have unveiled three different shirts- a primarily yellow home one, a green away top and another white alternate jersey.
