As a Kickstarter backer, I had high hopes, but there are just too many issues with it to recommend it: The good: + audio is great + animations are good for an isometric game The average: = sound design is acceptable, using sounds familiar in other games = load times are okay = decent variety in enemies Bad: - unless you play in 1920x1080, some of the puzzles will not work (rythm puzzle in mission 3 for example is unplayable in 2k or 4k) - voice acting is terrible. Dinklebot terrible - the game just feels "boring" after a while. Without trying to spoil it, towards the middle of the game your characters split up and have to go through their own "area", and it just feels poorly designed / very poorly illustrated in terms of what is going on, what you are supposed to do, how how to solve certain puzzles, without trial and error. You keep thinking "is that meant to be challening, or frustrating, or trying to extend game time, or all of the above?" I think the game had potential when it started on Kickstarter, and I think overall there are decent missions and content, but poor voice work, poor script and some dubious design / puzzle / resolution choices have left it hanging. Right now, it will take me a while to finish it, purely because I will be frustrated and have to go back to it in a few days' time -- that should never be what a game of that genre should be doing to you.. No wonder this game is on sale for so cheap! I played 3hrs and it's glitchy has heck! Please explain to me how I loaded the game from my save point in Paris to starting over in Hong Kong? This game should also not have lagging cut scenes. If you took up the mantle from Eidos and wanted to reintroduce this game to a new generation of players, than you should be more responsible from development to game play. I'm saddened that this title from the early days of playstation has succumbed to being treated with such negligence on the part of Sushee. As for Square Enix, you aren't exempt from this review. You are publishers of numerous classic games and instead of leaving FE and the defuct sequel Inferno to collect dust mites in a storage facility some where, you allowed an unknown game developer to take up the slack?! Sushee only has one other game to their repertorie ! Sushee, get it together if you want to be a reputable developer.. It might not be what old Fear Effect fans were expecting, but it is really fun and action-packed game. The mixture of puzzles and action is what makes it very enjoyable to play.. As a long time fan of the series I got a shot at the new incarnation in Fear Effect franchise. The game is different from their predecessors, this time it is an isometric adventure/shooter. The graphics is quite good, the game succeeded in taking the original style and improved it to the new age of gaming. Sound is in pair with graphics with nice sountrack and good sound effects. Overall I recommend to give it a try, not only for fans of original Fear Effect, but the younger audience too.. Stupid quests, stupid battle system, nice art and graphics. Terrible game, waste of time and money.. Update: That said, SCREW the underwater section with Deke. I officially quit the game at that point. It's just too terribly executed to be taken seriously. Fear Effect: Sedna mixes beautiful visuals, campy spy flick aesthetics, and some truly terrible gameplay to create a game which would have been better off a movie. You control one of several characters at a time as you use your soft aim lock, dodge roll, and cover system to defeat foes. Though FE feels as though it wants to be an action game, shoehorned strategy elements weaken its core gameplay while creating other infuriating gameplay issues. Full Review Available [oldgrizzledgamers.com]. What a surprise, this game. First I was expecting a lot, not a big fan of the franchise, but the character, the story and the visual were attracting me. Then I read the reviews online, and it made me hesitate. But I wanted to try myself. And it's one of the best decision in my life. Of course, fights are not perfect, AI is sometimes stupid and you can see it's an indie game with the lack of polish. But, if you go beyonf these small flaws, this game is HUGE: great story, awesome music, very nice cutscenes, amazing (very) old school puzzles. I really enjoyed every single minute on the game. And all of that for less than 20 bucks. Honestly. What are the "medias"thinking about. What the point in bashing this game and giving 15/20 to Kingdom Come?? Don't hesitate. Give yourself a go, enjoy the 10 hour you'll spend on this game, support a talented indie team.. I wanted to love this game. I really really did. The second I heard it was coming to Steam I had the date in my diary, eager to play it. I didn't even mind the game style had changed from the original two games; it was Fear Effect, and that made me happy. Unfortunately it's a game riddled with issues. I've onlyplayed for 4 hours and already the flaws are glaringly obvious. The isometric viewpoint is fixed, which wouldn't be an issue so much if the level design was clear, meaning half the time it's trial and error as to what is a walkway or door. I found myself backtracking and searching areas repeatedly just to work out where the game wanted me to go. The AI is very basic, with enemies just standing around discovered bodies, staring into space until returning to their fixed patrol routes as if nothing had happened. I tried the tactical mode only to have my allies get stuck on walls or doorframes until I took manual control again, which made the option cumbersome and far easier to solo most levels. And some of the dialogue comes as non sequiturs. The animated sequences between levels are pretty though, capturing the style of the original games with their two tone cell shaded styles. And the puzzles are pretty fun, involving observational skills rather than find one clue and move on. There's a great sense of accomplishment of getting things right first time. Unfortunately when compared to current isometric stealth games, this one falls terribly short. In fact, I'm not sure it reaches a great standard amongst any stealth / tactical games out there. If this wasn't Fear Effect, I suspect it would go largely ignored. But goddamn I wanted it to be good. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't written this review in the hope it will get an update to fix it, because it's clear the creators are as big a fan of the series as those who bought the game.
