In our American society today the excessive use of technological devices encourages inactive lifestyles. Some of these activities include sitting at the computer all day, surfing the web for long hours and generally spending lots of time watching television. An increasing number of Americans are developing vision conditions and eye diseases at high rates.
For example, according to the National Eye Institute, 14 million Americans have vision problems. Of these, 11 million account for people who can correct their vision problems with the use of glasses or contact lenses.
Whereas, 3 million of these people account for individuals with eyesight problems that cannot be corrected with glasses or contact lenses. The question is, is there a connection between these inactive lifestyles that contributes to poor eyesight and the development of eye diseases?
