Everything You Need To Know About LED Warehouse Lighting

Lighting is one of the most essential aspects of any building. It is needed to see the area and access it when the sun goes down. However, big open spaces like auditoriums, gymnasiums, manufacturing, sports complexes, distribution, and more need powerful lights that are bright enough to properly light up the area and leave no dark spots. To accomplish this purpose, one needs to install many lights that lead to higher energy consumption and added cost. Luckily, there is one way via which the owner of such large spaces can significantly save the cost and that is with the installation of LED warehouse lighting. This type of lighting option is specifically built for big areas that need more light. Once installed, they can brighten the work floor, improve productivity, reduce maintenance and save energy.

Why LEDs for Warehouse Lighting?

If you are wondering why you should install LED lights in your warehouse or any other large establishment, the listed below points will answer your question.

  • Cost –Any big area will demand more lights for proper illumination. Traditional incandescent bulbs consume a lot of energy that adds to the energy bill. However, LED lights don’t need to consume more energy to give out a bright light. Furthermore, the price of UV lighting has also come way down. So, if you wish to replace all the lights with LEDs, it will be a one-time investment with no greater cost.
  • Aesthetics –When it comes to outside lighting or lighting up a big space, aesthetics plays a vital role. The area must look presentable and inviting. That can be achieved only when you select the right lights for the purpose. LEDs look sleek and give a contemporary appeal. When installed and working, they will always add to the aesthetics of the space.
  • Easy Installation –If you are wondering that installing led lights will be a daunting and time-consuming task, then you must know that one of the biggest advantages of led lights is their ease of installation. They are lighter and compact when compared to their traditional counterpart. LEDs light up faster, so there is no worry of turning it on and off, as and when you wish to.
  • Low Maintenance –Another great advantage of switching to LED lights is the fact that they are significantly low maintenance over an incandescent bulb. If we speak in terms of numbers, you can reduce the maintenance cost by 95% with LEDs.

How The Space Is Utilized!

Lights are installed in an area for a number of reasons such as security, better lighting, and creating an ideal ambiance. So, you need to consider what your space is used for and accordingly footcandle of LEDs must be finalized. Footcandle is a non-SI unit of luminance or light intensity.

What wattage and lumens do I need?

As mentioned earlier, wattage and lumens will also depend upon the space that you are running. Warehouses generally require less than compared to retail spaces and golf course lights. So, to make the right decision, stick with lumens and not watts. Lumens are the measure of light and cover the amount of light that is being produced. If you are going with the watts, then know that more watts don’t mean that you will get more light. So, go with the lumen to watt ratio.

Appropriate lumens at Various Heights

Some establishments have high ceilings and some have low. Where you install your lights also plays a significant role. If you don’t want the lights to be too bright or dim, then follow the below-mentioned points.

  • You will need about 10,000-15,000 lumens at about 12-15 ft. Below this height, you will need more fixtures at fewer lumens.
  • 16,000-20,000 Lumens are ideal for 15-20 ft
  • Go with 33,000 lumen lights for 25-35 ft. As the height increases, increase the number of lumens.

Spacing

When spacing LED lights, height, beam angle, and desired footcandles need to be considered. It seems easy but there are a few basic tips that you must follow along.

  • 12 ft spacing for bright lighting and 15ft spacing for normal is ideal at 15 ft height
  • You can go to 15 for bright and 18ft for normal at 20 ft height
  • You can go to 20 ft spacing for bright and 25ft for normal at 30 ft

Choosing the most appropriate LED lights for your warehouse or any other large establishment isn’t difficult when you know what you are doing and have basic knowledge in mind.
