Enlite Flora 680W LED Grow Light VS Neocision Spectra Elite 680W LED Grow Light-BVV

If you're new to indoor growing and you're shopping for LED grow lights for the first time, you're going to find that there are a lot of different options to choose from. While choice is certainly a good thing, with so many different types of LED grow lights, trying to decide which one to choose can seem like an overwhelming task.

To help you on your quest for finding the right LED grow lights for your indoor garden and that will best support your plants so that they'll thrive, we've taken the liberty of doing the research for you.

How Much Light to give plants

Light is a funny thing since it's hard to measure.

You can pour 1 cup of water on a plant or add 1 tablespoon of perlite to a soil mix, but it's not like you can give a plant 7 lbs. of organic, free-range light every day.

The best approximation we have is to simply measure duration. How long should the plant be exposed to light each day?

And to further complicate things, how much of what kind of light? There's natural and artificial, morning and afternoon, and fluorescent, etc. It gets pretty confusing.

But we're here to simplify things, so let's start with a baseline: plants like to have about 10–14 hours of light a day.
Why not more light? Why not 24 hours-a-day light? Because plants need rest too!

And I mean that seriously - just like people need to sleep to do important things like reset our brains and repair our muscles, plants have certain processes that only occur in the dark.

In fact - here's some fun trivia. Plants also need the dark. Most of them use a special kind of photosynthesis called CAM. Those plants only take in carbon dioxide during the night and store energy during the day.

I wouldn't wanna hold my breath for 24 hours, would you?

So definitely don't expose your plants to more than 14 hours. 12 hours of light a day is enough to make anyone happy.

What lights should I use to grow indoors instead?

With a good light spectrum, you can grow anything using much lower wattage, saving you energy and costs while yielding healthier, bigger plants. LED grow lights still aren't widely understood among growers, but this new technology is the best way to get happier, denser plants. They use a lower wattage without sacrificing a quality light spectrum, so you can lower your LED lights right down to the plant canopy, giving them the light they need without having to stretch out. While old school HID light alternatives, like HPS and CMH technology, have a lower initial investment, they need to be replaced frequently and require expensive HVAC cooling systems. A quality LED grow light, on the other hand, can last up to 10 years - and never requires a cooling fan. The grow lights in LED Habitat's grow light gardens use a broad spectrum of light (including red, blue, white and green lights, not only red and blue or burple lights) to help you grow the densest, greenest and healthiest medicinal plants. The broad-spectrum light engine covers 420–660nm, allowing you to grow indoors using as little as 25 watts.

Why Switch to a LED Grow Light?

If you've grown multiple cannabis crops in the past with a power-hungry HID (high-intensity discharge) light, you know how large your electricity bill can be at the end of the month.

When your plants are in the vegetative phase, the lights are left on for 18 hours out of 24. This stage of growth can last anywhere from one week to 6 weeks - depending on how large you'd like your plants to be.

This accumulation of time significantly affects your cost of operations, since each minute of lighting is costing you a certain dollar value.

Once you've completed the vegetative phase, it's time to move onto the flowering stage. Although this phase of growth requires less lighting (12-hours), it still aggregates over time because this process takes between 7–11-weeks to finish.
After considering that you're looking at 8–17 weeks of lighting, which doesn't include the lighting required for seed germination, clone propagation, mother maintenance, or the juvenile growth stage.

Another aspect that you'd need to take into consideration is how many HID lights are required to cover your given canopy space.

Most of the time, 1 600-watt HPS light isn't enough to cover a 4'x8' grow tent. As you begin to place additional lights into your grow room, you exponentially increase the cost of electricity.

Once you switch over to a 1,000-watt LED grow light, you immediately reduce your energy consumption. Although LED companies label their lighting systems as 1,000-watt, they draw far less energy from the outlet.

Typically, a 1,000-watt LED grow light will consume upwards of 400-watts of power; thus, consuming a fraction of energy compared to a 1,000-watt HID.

By slashing your power bill in half, you can spend these savings on additional tools, new cannabis genetics, or better yet, place them into your bank account.

Although a full spectrum 1,000w LED grow light isn't exactly equivalent to a 1,000w HPS, they offer additional benefits that outcompete traditional HIDs.

Full Spectrum Grow Lights Buyer's Guide

Buying the right full spectrum grow light is crucial to the well-being of your indoor plants. And not all of them are built in the same way. So, you need to keep in mind a few important features before moving on to choose a suitable light.

Switches
Generally, a full spectrum grow light provides sufficient light for all stages of plant growth. However, some of you might prefer products that let you control the type of light that the plants would get. These products feature switches that help in adjusting the different light modes suitable for different growth stages.

Cooling System
This is an important criterion to consider when you're looking for a grow light. You should ensure that the light has an efficient heat dissipation system. While some products consist of mute fans, others have an aluminium heat sink that absorbs the extra heat. Note that some grow lights with fans may produce an annoying noise sometimes.

High Wattage
For providing your plants with good coverage and the ideal light output, you should find a spectrum light that offers a minimum of 300W. Though, a single plant or small crop can thrive with a light having a lower wattage.

Many of the LED lighting systems available currently offer a wattage going up to 1000W. Note that a wattage higher than this will need a much bigger room or grow tent and an air conditioning system as well.

Conclusion

In sum, the best LED grow light is an indoor gardener's best friend! It mimics the energy of the sun in an enclosed environment, providing an assurance that your plants will be healthy.
