The best in the Eastern Himalayas, Darjeeling is aptly called the Queen of all Indian hill – stations. Without a trip to these hill beauties, your exploration of the Himalayas remains incomplete. So, plan today and try out some of the Darjeeling and Sikkim tour package to gather some unforgettable memories of beauty and serenity all mingled together.

How to Plan a Great Trip to Darjeeling and Sikkim

While planning a nice combined trip to Darjeeling in West Bengal and Sikkim, which is to the north of West Bengal, the first thing to decide is which place to start your trip with. In order to reach Sikkim’s capital Gangtok from Darjeeling or vice versa, it takes 4.5 hours travelling time in a car.
The advantage of starting the trip with Darjeeling is that you can avoid some of the bad and dusty roads to Sikkim. This is owing to the fact that repair and revamping works are going on in Kalijhora, covering some parts of the National Highway 10. If you want to go to Sikkim directly from NJP Railway Station or the Bagdogra Airport, you will not be able to avoid those bad patches.

So, at present, it is best to begin your Darjeeling Sikkim tour package from Darjeeling only. In such case, you must bear in mind that the Sikkim state government authorities does not allow cars and taxis with West Bengal registration to enter Sikkim. Either you will have to avail of a car that has a Sikkim registration, which, by the way, is more abundantly available at NJP or Bagdogra, or you need to change vehicles at a place called Deorali Stand, which is 2 kilometres away from Gangtok, and get a local cab for Sikkim.

At the planning stage, you must also take into account the return journey. Remember that Darjeeling is closer to the exit points either at NJP or Bagdogra airport and can be reached in 3.5 hours, while it takes 4.5 hours to reach these places from Gangtok. And that too, you may have to pass some serious road blocks, traffic jams and so on.

So, weigh your options well, and decide which place to visit first. If you are hard pressed for time and may get into trouble while returning from Sikkim, then visit Sikkim first. Otherwise, Darjeeling should be your first stoppage. You will have the added advantage of taking the wonderful route via the Mirik Lake.

How to Organise the Tour in Best Possible Way

The best way to enjoy the most beautiful destinations in both the places, you may seek the help of an experienced and skilled tour operator, who will not only help you with the sight-seeing, but also suggest the best hotels and eating places within your budget.

You are to remember that entry into Sikkim requires you to produce your identity proof. So be ready with the documents.
