Although there are multiple characters to play as, no true "metroid progression" style, and for the most part optional upgrades it still feels like it has a lot of backtracking when you realise you need more potions to keep up your health, or upgrades to do more damage. I still think that overall it's great, other than the familiars which require you to move the mouse to move the familiar, as well as control the character.. Disclosure: I recieved a free key not as compensation but as a gift since I was promoting this game on SteamGifts.

First Impressions:
If you take the game for what it is, it's not really that bad per say. I'm currently having some technical problems but I expect that for pretty much any newly released game indie or triple A title. The music isn't horrible but it's not tempting me to seek a soundtrack purchase (maybe the songs from Hiroki Kikuta). I really dislike the text as it's blurry for myself which causes a problem as I already have bad eyes, however I'm not sure if this is just a problem I'm having specifically or just how the text was done in the game. I'll have more to talk about after I can get the game to launch and play semi smoothly.

At the momment I really like the game in concept so I'm recommending it, maybe wait till a sale if you're not sure or on the fence about purchasing.

Random note: The music reminds me a lot of the Final Fantasy series, which is cool.. Just no...

It's so bad, had I paid more then $0.49 for it I'd be mad.. The fact that I bought this game means that something on the shop page made me think I would enjoy it. Don't make the same mistake.
This game doesn't have commercial quality. Even if you're a fan of 16 bit games, it's very difficult to enjoy this one.
The loading takes more than 5 minutes and the game has absolutely no configuration so you have to guesss the controls.. So, I've seen a lot of negative reviews on this game, and, seeing it was 99 cents, well...being the sucker for platformers I am, I decided to take a chance on this game, and see how I liked it. It isn't the greatest game ever, but it certainly is fun, and hard to put down when you get into it. The loading time upon starting the game was a little long, but honestly, it was the only time that a loading screen was seen, too--never saw another one while I was playing. I admit that the inability to change controls on the controller is rather annoying, but the layout as it is is just fine, I think, since on a controller, the Dash button was right next to the Jump, and the two attacks were in good reach, too. Now, personally, this game charmed me the minute the cutscene started, since it channels an RPG story fairly well, similarly to one you'd play on the Super Nintendo, and seeing that put into a platformer with some 'vania elements, I couldn't help but fall in love with it. I admit, some of the attacks seem a little clunky at times, such as the sword upper you can do with your blade-wielding characters, as it leave you vulnerable when you come down, but skills have been fairly diverse so far, and I look forward to delving in further to see what else awaits me! owo

Though, on another note, there have been a few little...iffy moments, two of them standing out more so than others. First, why does touching the "tutorial" boss kill you instantly? I know we're supposed to be getting some challenge, but, that seems kinda extreme for so early in the game. Second, there's a nifty secret area in the castle area that resembles, and even sounds like an NES game, but, upon finding the treasure there, and backtracking to the previous area, I discovered that, well...I couldn't leave. Going the way I came was out of the question, since it was like walking into a wall, and the other doorway which LOOKS like it could be an exit doesn't go anywhere, either, so my only option was to get myself killed by the mob of zombies, which, took quite a while since the character I was using had a lot of health. <w<; last of all, the boss of said castle spews lots of projectiles your way, one of which resembling one from a game many of us remember, if you've played Super Mario World on the SNES. Touch that, and it's an instant death, and it can be quite cumbersome to avoid, often leaving you hit, and instantly dead. Earlier before, when you drop underground into a room with two big mushrooms, and a bridge, going off to the left will lead you to plummet to your doom, since it hasn't been blocked off. And, last of all, the text seems to scroll by on its own, and it does so at random speed, or so it seems. Due to this, I missed a bit of text when trying to advance the text myself, being used to doing so in other RPGs and platformers, so...I hope this is changed later, or that you're at least given the option to choose manual, or auto.
Other than these, so far, I'm quite enjoying myself. I hope that you will give the game a chance in some way, it really is quite nice, and I imagine multiplayer would be quite fun! If I can update this, I'll do so after trying it out somehow.

Pros:
An RPG story with multiple characters fit for multiplayer
Nice graphics
Decent enough controls

Cons:
Loading screen takes a little time
A few insta-kills here and there

Personally, I rate this game 7.5 out of 10, and I think it's worth a try to see if you like it or not! A dollar isn't a bad price to look into it, I say.. In short:

It just has far too many design issues (sound, plot, animation, engine... etc) so no amount of polish could fix it. It needs a rebuild, or to release it as a Github open source project or at least something free in a indie friendlier environment, but no, in no way is this ready for primetime (which is too bad, because it reads like a good solid game pitch).

Longer rant :

Bro-Force is almost over and I was looking for something. My aim was not as high, but I did read about this starting out as a megaman Fan Game project with 4 players, but the devs decided to switch to pro because they had invested in the project too much. Well ... I understand making a game is not easy and I hope they try again, but this game is not good.

My problems are not with the wonky hitboxes or the low quality graphics. It's more of usability issue

* There's no tutorial
* The intro text is distorted and practically unreadable
* The intro animation could have all that back story, but instead you are thrown into it (instead we get to see a seizure warning sign and a completely unrelated Mandelbrot fractal zoom after many minutes waiting for it to load). Problem is, it's really not that good; not because of the writing (though the style seems more like a draft) but because the animations are lacking, yet showcased as if though they had been fully developed.
* There are very poorly placed spawn points
* Enemies at the begining can already kill you, not in an I wanna be the guy kind of way but more in a this one barely harms you that thing will kill you right off if you touch it. And the only way to tell is by trial and error...
* Pressing Escape closes it, instantly. It will take minutes to play, but can be closed instantly while searching for ways to change character... Yeah, fun

All in all, this game is lacking in design and had far too many loose ends, which must be why it was abandoned (no updates through 2017 is abandoned to me). The sound is bad, the graphics are bad, the gameplay is dull, the characters are uninspiring (level design has already been discussed by many). And the worst part is I really wanted to like it, in fact I rarely ever make a negative review, and I searched the internet like crazy for the Fangame it spawned from and have played many many amateur proyects (poorly made RomHacks? Heck yeah!). But this one just doesn't gel.

It seems like it was partially repurposed, partially patch, parts here, parts there, whole nowhere.

I am sorry, I hope to see a more developed project later, I really do. As for this little guy, it just doesn't cut it.. Overall I enjoyed my time with this game, the SNES style graphics, and music takes you on a nostalgia trip back to the glory days of gaming! There are a few technical issues with the game starting with the long load time(takes close to two minutes for me). Toward the end of the game I ran into a few code error messages, but not frequently enough to ruin my experience. The collision is also a bit suspect at times. I could go through a lot of walls that you are not meant to go through, and even suffered a few cheap deaths from falling through the ground. I also had a bit of trouble setting up my controller initially, I had to use JoyToKey to get it to works, since my Sabrent controller was not compatible at all; however that more likely an issue with the engine and not the game itself. These issues aside I really enjoyed the gameplay. There are a ton of secret sprinkled throughout the land, and I had a lot of fun just getting lost and exploring. The combat is also pretty enjoyable too and you are given a nice variety of characters to adventure with!

Pros:
Nice graphics and music.
Many Secrets to Discover.
Good Variety of Characters.

Cons:
Long Load Time.
A bit buggy with suspect collision and a few code error pop ups.
Setting up controller was a bit of a hassle.
