Drip irrigation is famous for a very efficient way to water plants. For example, an average sprinkler system has an efficiency of about 75-85%. In contrast, droplet irrigation has an efficiency of 90% or more. Over time, these differences in water supply efficiency will make a significant difference in crop production and company profitability. In areas where water is scarce, such as the desert areas of the States, drip irrigation has become a desirable irrigation method. Irrigation systems are relatively inexpensive, easy to install, simple to design, and low on-site moisture levels help to maximize plant health.

Also known as trickle irrigation, this form of irrigation applies water directly and slowly to the soil. The efficiency of this technology is provided by two main factors. The first is that water is absorbed into the soil to access plant roots instead of falling or evaporating. Secondly, water is only supplied to the site where water is actually needed, i.e. plant roots. Most drip irrigation systems are simple in design, minimizing design errors and installation defects. If you are interested in installation, there are some great instructions.
