Large screen, fast phone and power are its forte.
I find that many people remain with Apple because of its brand and integration with other Apple products they have like iTunes. In addition to people enjoy the apps you get from Jail breaking the iphone.

What do i need to know - what are the essential upgrades, downloads and ROM's i should get? I'm trying to get my head round it (i'm full of iPhone at the moment and i need some new stuff it get that out of brain )
Gary D.
Phones are getting rediculous now with all the features. All this technology is almost a disease lol.
like the games mentioned here:-
Does it do push email? How big is the SD card that comes with it? Generally how are you finding it?

I was a long term XDA user so i'm cool with WinMo, although the the orbit was a bit rough.
If I were you I would get used to using a stock ROM first until you're comfortable with what you're doing. There are exceptions, but most of the ROM chefs seem to care more about making a ROM that's "cool" than they do about making one that is stable or free of bugs.

Its not closed, its just minimised. Use the task manager to either stop or resume.
If Apps are your interest, then wait till an Android style HD2 arrives. Apps are not its strong point.
edit i found bubble breaker right at the bottom, why this phone does not have a simple search string is crazy lol But I followed the procedure and none of the games like prince of persia, solitaire shows but bubble breaker.
deathtrap3000.
I have no problem at all with WinMo.
Only my opinion of course. Wait for others to give there opinions.

Again sorry for the n00b questions.
I'm happy to be back in the land of windows )

Its really strange because I can't find it, is this procedure only for US HD2 (leo) devices? I have a UK T-Mobile HD2.

Flashing a ROM is a very different proposition from Jail-breaking. Jail-breaking is the equivalent of taking a desktop PC and removing all the security and anti-virus software so you can install whatever you want on it. Flashing a ROM is more like installing your own customised version of Windows - it's far more radical than a jail-break.
Thanks again (and sorry for the n00b questions?)

I hacked my device this morning installed HSPL Bricked it, recovered it and bricked again i managed to work out the problem (not installing the right "radio" version) since then all has been well. Well until i used a tool to change some of the slider icons and lost the the Sense UI altogether Reflashed and all was well I think the whole "hacking" thing was made a little complicated on XDA Dev's. I could summerise it in a medium length post, its no where near as scary as it seems.
Cheers for any advice you can impart.
You cannot put Facebook on as a Tab without installing a new Rom.
All in all, Its the best phone I have had.
I find mine great. It can be a little buggy on occasions, but nowt to get me down. It has The Best screen of any mobile for size, its just gorgeous. Browsing is a doddle.

Nevertheless, great community support and personally I have no problems with my HD2 knowing that there are forums like XDA Devs. I prefer the HD2 over my brothers desire. It depends on what features you can't like without and then going from there really. I flashed win mobile to run on one of the many roms that are available and it is very slick.

Its so nice to be back on the windows platform - everything just works smoothly with my PC and copying music and photos is no longer the iTunes ball ache i had with the iPhone. (i'm not dissing the iPhone - i think its a great device but it can be a pain in the bottom with all the "i'm going to treat you like an idiot" apple'ness)

HTC have got that part spot on.

Hi guys, I'm thinking of jumping to the HD2 (bored with my iPhone and fed up with everyone having the same phone in the office.)
Its up to you. Chelsea.Tone tried it, didn't like it too much. It was down to WinMo that done it I believe.
Gary D.
I've put this ROM on it [ROM][26 Apr 10][V1.9][B1.77][576RAM][Kumar's Leo ROM Series][Premium & Classic] - xda-developers The ROM has some great mods on it - loving being able to change the home screen and reorder the gadgets on it. I'm not sure about the "slider icons" but i'll work out how to change those in the coming days. I've also flashed it so i can make use of the extra 128mb of RAM.
majnu.
I'm not that bothered about apps to be honest, there are a few i would miss but of the 120 apps i bought i only really use 4 or 5. Reallt fed up with the Jailbreak cat and mouse game.
I have no problem at all with WinMo.

It works on my UK O2 handset.

They are called Home Screen Tabs. To add extra apps on that pane. Scroll accross to Settings > Personalise > Home Screen Tabs > (Select the one you want by touching the check box or touch and hold to re-arrange the order) Click and done and then HTC sense should re-load. But I have a flashed Rom so it might be different for stock users.
I can find Solitaire. No sign of Prince of Persia though.
i which case which ROM should i use?
All in all i'm very pleased with it. Its a superb device and is extremely beautiful. The camera/video is excellent. The music player is great too (even if it is a little iPod'ish). I'm not so concerned about "apps". I've had my iPhone for over 2 years (1G and 3G) and i bought loads and loads of pointless apps for it. All I need is solid email, a decent MP4/Video player, a good phone and access to the web/RSS feeds. Everything else is just pointless for me.
Windows Mobile is extremely customisable in its default state (compared to an iPhone).
The only thing that puts be off the HD2 is not being able to get WM7 when its released - do you think it will be available for the HD2?
Gary D.
Dead chuffed so far. Being configuring and setting it up all afternoon.
Push mail is yes. 8GB card included.

You are half way there if you have used WinMo before. 6.5 is a massive jump on 6.1. My first smartphone used Winmo 2002 Moto MPX 200 So you could say I'm cool with WinMo too At present WM7 doesn't bother me, but I'm sure that if it doesn't come to the HD2 the folks at XDA will come up with something.
Would you mind if i asked a couple of questions?
Xda Developers is a Great place for tonnes of tweaks, rom's and anything HD2 based.

I use the taskbar icons in post 3.
I've got "push" email working with my apple mobile me account - and that works like a dream. It's taken me a couple of days to get used to the keyboard but now i have its really really nice.

I will flash it at some point - just need to get my head round the modding scene and know what i'm doing.
The biggest fault with the HD2 is WinMo 6.5. The hardware ticks all the right boxes for me, but the OS is a bit outdated. With HTC though you have the answer with HTC Sense. It is truly fantastic to look at and to use.

Guys is it possible to customise the menu at the bottom of the screen? I'm not sure of the name - it the one you swipe you finger along (Starts with Home and ends with settings at the other) i want to put facebook on it but i cant see how.
Nicolas - thank you for the reply (and the one that doesn't seem to have a post on forum - i get email updates from AVF)
The WM email client is infuriating. It doesn't format emails properly, you have to 'click to scroll right' if it's too wide to fit on screen and it doesn't always format the email faithfully.

I'm looking into cooked ROM's at the moment but i'm really not sure which one to go for. I look the HTC sense bit of the phone and i realy dont want to lose it (or mess with it very much) I'd just like to change a couple of things - facebook for one and the horrible status bar icons that look so 2002 and low res.

I'm a tweaker when it comes to phones and I'm never happier than when I'm messing about with an OS. I'm assuming that this is tweakers delight (my Orbit was )

I'm looking forward to exploring the device over the next few days/weeks and getting a setup that ticks all my boxes.

You can get the proper task manager that stops the program with Duttys Task Manger on XDA.

any recommendations on ROMS?
I've just got another HD2 in fact, as a work phone for a while, to replace the Palm Pre I've been using up until now. It's a better work prospect overall, but really drives you mad in some ways.

I'm looking forward to going ot the office tomorrow and not being one of the 70 odd people that have an iPhone.
Decisions on which phone is always tough, but as you have had experience with both Iphone and WinMo, it must make things a lot easier.

I'm after a phone that does social networking, has solid email, texting, makes a decent call and has a good music player. I'm not concerned about apps.

Thanks for the reply.
So do i need to cook the ROM before i can do anything with the device? like Jailbreaking an iPhone before you can mod it (winterboard etc?)
