An end of the world battle between gangsters, cops and zombies.
A posse of crooked cops, malevolent gangsters and a horde of walking dead are the centre point of this gruesome, tight, action packed, claustrophobic tale of retribution and escape. Penned like animals, on the top floor of a deserted high-rise block, these two opposing gangs find that they are not alone in the lair of bloodthirsty corridors of death. Joining forces to survive, they must reach ground level together or perish. Loaded with a bad ass attitude, guns, axes and extremely creative hand-to-hand combat sequences that project the fears and paranoia that are the fighting forces behind the need to survive, when caught up in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Well i really am into my Zombie movies and only come across this one by chance,if it had not been for some poor acting at times i would have rated this 10/10.Had me totally riveted from the start,plenty of action and gore but all done very well with some scenes reminiscent of other movies i have watched.If you are a zombie fan i guarantee you will not be disappointed after watching this one.The movie is foreign (French) but i managed to a English dubbed version as i would imagine subtitles may be a little distracting for this type of movie. Directors of this movie is Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher who i really don't know much about but i will be checking out what other movies they have been involved in,i would certainly look forward to another installment of this movie.
The premise of the Horde is that a group of police go to take down a Nigerian drug cartel after one of their own is killed, however, there is a zombie outbreak and the city becomes under siege. Trapped in a block of flats cops and crooks must assist each other to survive.

Zombies recently have been mixed productions, excluding virus or affective flicks, 28 Days Later, Crazies, and Rec. They have been the butt end of successful comedies (Zombieland, Shaun of the Dead), disappointing recent offerings from the genres defining creator Romero and endless low budgeters, including the over praised Colin.

Borrowing from the best and despite some unnecessary choppy editing and the racial tone of Arnaud Bordas screenplay it has many redeeming features, the story, issues of trust and loyalty play out nicely. The acting is excellent from the supporting cast, Eriq Ebouaney and Claude Perron stand out.

Thankfully, Horde is a rounded and entertaining piece of cinema, taking the subject matter violently seriously. It's a big budget well acted French flick, plenty of nasty zombies, adequate developed characters, guns and gore. It's finely directed by Yannick Dahan and Benjamin Rocher but note worthy is the lighting. The perfect eerie, ominous look and feel, the dimly lit corridors and well dressed sets. It's a very gloomy, gory film, this coupled with Christopher Lennertz's score and some sound effects deliver lots of scares.

Notwithstanding subtitles and/or dubbed voices, "La horde" is not just one of the best dead films in the last twenty years, but also possibly has the most fitting bleak endings of a zombie film to date.
This zombie flick has only been released in a cut version in France, neither the DVD nor the Blu-ray contain the Uncut Version. Right at the beginning three long scenes featuring the character of Jimenez were left out: two on the cemetery and the following one in the alley showing Jimenez beating up a guy. There's no real explanation for deleting this scenes but they can be seen in the bonus material of the French DVD/BD.
