If endless atmostpheric dissonance is your choice for good times in the heat of Summer, than Lakeshore's release of THE STRANGERS will make your day. Below is the official press release:

Yet another new release announcement from BUYSOUNDTRAX with AHI RECORDS. This time we have the soundtrack from the cult-classic, THEY LIVE by master of the macabre, JOHN CARPENTER AND ALAN HOWARTH.
“For its first release of a video game soundtrack, Milan Records is very proud to be associated with such a classic series as Alone in the Dark,” said Nick Bobetsky, VP Sales and Marketing, MILAN RECORDS. “This is an original and powerful soundtrack, which goes beyond what you would normally expect in a video game.”
With Speed Racer, Indiana Jones, Prince Caspian and The Incredible Hulk, the Summer of 2008 will surely go down as one of the most "heroic" of the decade. Leading the way comes the hotly anticipated IRON MAN. Ever since the first teaser was released, comic-book fans have been rusting themselves stiff with drool. At the same time, some film music fans found themselves similarly rusty, but, in their case, it was due to a drizzle of tears. Director JohnFavreau saw relatively good success with composer JOHN DEBNEY in year's past, so it was a general expectation that Favreau and Debney would hook up again for the beloved heavy-metal-hero. There was great surprise when it was announced that composer RAMIN DJAWADI would be laying down the score for IRON MAN's first foray as a live-action adventure hero. The film itself has been met with critical acclaim and is shaping up to be one of the highest rated superhero films of the last ten years.
For more information about the soundtrack please contact Greg O'Connor-Read: [email protected] or +1 (702) 407-0935 http://www.milanrecords.com/
- Gettysburg OST will be available on June 10, 2008.
Here’s what the press has to say about Alone in the Dark:
Iron Man Poster Print Winners Announced!
JOHN WILLIAMS still is, and will likely ever be, "the maestro," but there's no denying his style has continued to evolve since his classic, symphonic scores from late-seventies and early-eighties. For myself, and perhaps a few others who were raised on Williams and his unforgettable works for Steven Spielberg and George Lucas might agree, it's hard to say that the latter-day-Williams is as "fun" to listen to. When it came to the prequel trilogy of the STAR WARS saga, those expecting the same musical magic found in the original trilogy, were, to varying degrees, let down. The same magic just wasn't there. It may be that it was an impossible, self-created, standard for John Williams to live up to. Whether it was by Williams' choice, Lucas', or some combination. the musical experience of the Star Wars prequel trilogy just didn't live up to first three. Now, with this INDIANA JONES revival, we are faced with the same issue. There's no question as to whether Williams would be able deliver a decent score for THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, but rather would he rise up to the level of quality and deliver flat-out, iconic, film music once again.

Even as IRON MAN continues to tear up the box office, the next big "Summer Movie" is upon us - SPEED RACER. While composer Michael Giacchino's score for the film has proven a bit of an orchestral-shock to me, veteran-video-game composer, WINIFRED PHILLIPS' score for the SPEED RACER VIDEO GAME is much more along the lines of what the film's trailer appeared to be setting us up for.
Congratulations to JEFFREY BAIN and RYAN NEWBROUGH, our two newest winners of the WHO WANTS TO WIN MEMORABILIA Poster Contest!
Guitar Hero! Review by Christopher Coleman.
THEY LIVE was released on compact disc at the time of the film’s release by Enigma Records and contained around thirty minutes of music. To this day, despite having been out of print for several years, THEY LIVE continues to fetch high prices in the collector’s market. AHI Records, to be distributed by BUYSOUNDTRAX Records, presents a new 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition release of THEY LIVE, which includes the contents of the original album release, newly remastered, along with sixteen tracks of previously unreleased music as bonus tracks, nearly 75 minutes of music. The booklet contains notes written by the composer himself.

David Buckley has come a long ways from his days as a choir-boy in the United Kingdom. Traveling a road that lead through Cambridge University, as both student and later professor, Buckley longed for more than the composing of high-brow, post-modern pieces could deliver. Writing scores for many television documentaries and British commercials, he eventually connected back with an old acquaintance, composer HARRY GREGSON-WILLIAMS. That working relationship lead to THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM for Buckley as composer with Gregson-Williams as the score's producer. Serendipitously, it was a rejected piece of music, from another project, that was a key in opening the door to THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM - a piece that eventually became a part of this score.

Iron Man’s composer will show the best of his filmography in Tenerife. Rabin’s performance will be the finishing touch for the Second Tenerife International Film Music Festival.
For martial-art film fans, THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM has been a dream come true. Even beyond their prime, Jet Li and Jackie Chan are still tops in the business. For this Lions Gate release, the two play iconic roles: a monk and a drunk respectively. They become the co-masters of a young, displaced Bostonian, Jason Tripitakas. Not only is Jason in the wrong place, but he's in the wrong time. and universe. The young, kung-fu-film-fanatic, has come to possess a golden-staff, that legend says, was once owned by the mythic Monkey King. Before being deceived and imprisoned by the sinister Jade Warlord, the Monkey King hurled his staff from his world into ours - awaiting the time when "the chosen one" would find and return the staff to him; thereby setting him free. Jason begins his quest with the prized staff in hand and along the way is joined by the monk, the drunk, and a young girl bent on vengeance against the same Jade Warlord who murdered her family. THE FORBIDDEN KINGDOM doesn't quite live up to some of Asia's top Wuxia films but is easily the best effort I've seen come a Hollywood studio in a very long time. It is a well-rounded film that doesn't take itself too seriously which allows for a wider palette of emotions than normally expected for such a film. To keep pace with frenetic action sequences, fantastic settings, romantic flirtations, and sporadic humor, newcomer-composer, David Buckely was hired to pen the score.

The Strangers - Music by tomandandy.
Alone in the Dark follows paranormal investigator Edward Carnby as over the course of one apocalyptic night he must fight to survive and uncover the earth-shattering secret behind New York’s Central Park. With an exhilarating mix of gameplay, intense storytelling in a TV season style, unprecedented environmental interaction, and DVD chapter select feature which lets players move on if they get stuck, Alone in the Dark is set to change what players expect from action games.
With this many years to "toy around" and now a couple more to get serious with, THE HOBBIT and sequel should be spectacular. This announcement would have to place these two projects at the top of just about everyone's "most anticipated" list.

The score makes use of several interesting devices, including the pipe organ, a gothic approach which is contrasted beautifully by the solitary theme duet on bassoon and clarinet. Just like The Abandoned, this album features a lengthy bonus track, the exciting orchestral score from Elio Quiroga's award-winning short Home Delivery.

Indeed this is good news, but perhaps the biggest film-music-no-brainers ever, too! Well, let the hype, speculation, and debates begin. We have until 2010 before THE HOBBIT and its score is ready, but again, as mentioned in our interview with Howard Shore, he had been toying with ideas for the hobbit way back in 2006.

(May 20, 2008- Los Angeles, CA) – Lakeshore Records will release the soundtrack for THE STRANGERS on May 20th via iTunes and in stores on May 27th. The soundtrack contains original music composed by tomandandy. Andy Milburn and Thomas Hadju are tomandandy. The duo met at Princeton University, where they began writing music together. They would write short pieces which they dubbed ‘blasts’ comprised of bits of disjunct sounds. Though they did not translate when performed in concert halls, these blasts were perfect when combined with images on TV. Soon tomandandy moved to NY and began writing for TV and film. Their first feature film soundtrack was 1994’s KILLING ZOE for writer/director Roger Avary. Their film credits include THE HILLS HAVE EYES, THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES, THE RULES OF ATTRACTION and ARLINGTON ROAD. Lock the doors. Assume you're safe. The horrifying events that took place in the Hoyt family's vacation home at 1801 Clark Road on February 11, 2005, are still not entirely known. Champagne. Rose petals. Candlelight. It was supposed to be a night of celebration for Kristen McKay (Liv Tyler) and James Hoyt (Scott Speedman). But after leaving a friend's wedding reception and returning to the house, everything had collapsed for the happy couple. Then came a 4 a.m. knock on the door and a haunting voice. Is Tamara here? Writer/director Bryan Bertino explores our most universal fears in The Strangers, a terrifying suspense thriller about a couple whose remote getaway becomes a place of terror when masked strangers invade. The confrontation forces Kristen and James to go far beyond what they thought themselves capable of if they hope to survive. Rogue Pictures presents THE STRANGERS, in theaters on May 30, 2008. THE STRANGERS original soundtrack on Lakeshore Records will be available on iTunes on May 20th and in stores on May 27, 2008.

While sticking to the core of the Iron Man origin story, Favreau does contemporize his telling. Still he makes enough references to the many versions of the Iron Man origin story that fans of at least two generations should be well appeased. The all-star cast of Robert Downey Jr., Jeff Bridges, Gwenyth Paltrow, and Terence Howard go along way to solidify the film, but the quick and witty writing makes this a superhero film for the adult in us all. The final result is one of the better comic-book-to-feature-film-jobs to ever come out of Hollywood. IRON MAN sets itself apart by several means and among them is the contribution of composer RAMIN DJAWADI.

Giacchino, Go! Review by Christopher Coleman.
Sunday, May 25, 2008.
Twenty years later, THEY LIVE continues to engage old fans of the film and gather up new fans with its potent combination of science fiction, action along with biting political and social commentary. THEY LIVE tells the story of John Nada, a down-on-his-luck construction worker, who comes to Los Angeles in 1988 looking for work. What he finds instead is the ultimate conspiracy as he puts on a special pair of sunglasses and begins to see the world as it really is. Aliens have infiltrated every level of our society and are controlling us with subliminal messages while they quietly rob us of our world’s precious resources. Taken lightly at the time of its release, THEY LIVE seems to have become more apocryphal as the years go by, especially in light of the world’s current political climate.
This has truly been a sad week in the entertainment industy. Among many notable personalities passing away in the last 7 days are composers Earle Hagen and Alexander Courage. Both composers have written music that have gone on to become television icons such as Earle Hagen's theme from THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW and Alexander Courage's original title theme for STAR TREK. Each has contributed to the industry far beyond those two instances and will be greatly missed. Read more about Earle Hagen here.

Select from 19 different drivers and their extreme cars as players take to the track in an effort to win the illustrious World Racing League cup. One of the first games compatible with the Wii Wheel, Speed Racer: The Videogame allows players to experience all the twists and turns of the film’s racing sequences first hand as they jump behind the wheel of Speed’s T180 race car the Mach 6, or the specially designed T180 race cars of more than 15 other characters, including Racer X, Trixie and other film favorites.
NEW HORROR FILM THE STRANGERS SOUNDTRACK TO BE RELEASED BY LAKESHORE RECORDS Soundtrack Recording Features Original Music By tomandandy.
SPEED RACER, the score, is nothing like what I expected, and just about everything I dared not to hope for. Ah those tricky, tricky, Wachowski's. A complete modernization of the franchise was not what they had in mind at all. It was certainly modernized in terms of the visuals. Being a cross between DICK TRACY and SPY KIDS, the film felt more like watching an extended video game cut-scene than a live-action feature. With hyper-real colors, disconcerting editing and non-stop screen wipes, the film found at least some grounding in MICHAEL GIACCHINO's predominantly acoustic score. Thankfully, for this SPEED RACER revival, Giacchino pays due homage to NOBUYOSHI KOSHIBE's original themes from the 1960's television series, delivering a full-throttled, retro-score.

BUYSOUNDTRAX Records will be releasing A RAISIN IN THE SUN. The album features music composed by Mervyn Warren for the 2008 Sony Pictures television film, adapted by Paris Qualles (THE TUSKEEGEE AIRMEN) for the screen from the classic play written by Lorraine Hansberry, directed by Kenny Leon and starring Sean Combs, Tony Award winners Phylicia Rashad and Audra McDonald, Tony Award nominee Sanaa Lathan, along with John Stamos. This is the third filmed production of A RAISIN IN THE SUN, following in the footsteps of the 1961 classic film directed by Daniel Petrie and starring Sidney Poitier, Ruby Dee and Louis Gossett, Jr. and the 1989 television film directed by Bill Duke and starring Danny Glover, springing from the 2004 award-winning Broadway revival of the play. Presented as a special three-hour television event, A RAISIN IN THE SUN, set in the 1950s, tells the story of the Younger family, a hard-working Black family living in a cramped tenement building in Chicago’s South Side and their attempts to struggle with poverty, racism and internal conflict as they strive for a better life. The Younger family is about to receive a $10,000 insurance check and tensions rise as the family tries to decide how to best use the money. Composer Mervyn Warren was playing piano by the age of 5 and writing songs by the age of 10. He is a Five-time Grammy Award winner and Ten-time nominee. He is a highly accomplished film composer, record producer, songwriter/lyricist, arranger, pianist and vocalist. Equally adept at various styles, Merv’s work spans the genres of pop, R&B, jazz, orchestral, classical, hip-hop, vocal, country and gospel. He is one of the industry’s most sought-after record producers and has collaborated with Whitney Houston, Barbara Streisand, Chicago and Queen Latifah. There is some interesting discussion going on about the latest Indy score from John Williams, THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, but is it your favorite of the lot?
“We’ve wanted to work with Inon for a long time,” said Todd Howard executive producer of Fallout 3. “He brings so much to the table, in terms of his talent, background, and the music that’s influenced him. He’s created a score that has epic sweep; from the lonely ambience of the wasteland to dramatic fights for survival.”
No. that's not Batman's Scarecrow. There's a new baghead-baddy in town.
The comic has only been around since 1995, but the title might be most familiar from its short-lived series run on TNT back in 2000. Of course, many know that Joel Goldsmith produced TV-series memorable score.

Three years later, we finally have the second installment from THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA - PRINCE CASPIAN. Returning for the sequel is director Adamson, the four main "child-stars," and composer HARRY GREGSON-WILLIAMS. In THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE, we clearly heard Gregson-Williams establish a distinct style for the Narnia franchise - an intriguing, albeit surprising, mix of classical and contemporary styles and instrumentation. It was certainly a bold move back in 2005 given the success of the Lord of the Rings and the Harry Potter franchises, which were both complete with more traditional, symphonic scores. The 2005 film was slower than some anticipated, especially at it's onset, hence the score was considered to lack a little intensity as well. Still, well established were themes and motifs representing the world of Narnia, the Pevensie children, and Aslan. Having done this, Harry Gregson-Williams, like the four youngsters who have returned to Narnia, is able to more fully explore his musical-landscape. In the end, PRINCE CASPIAN delivers a richer listening experience.

"We wanted to surround this film with a suffocating, anguishing, claustrophobic atmosphere. The key to the story is that the characters cannot leave the place where they live. Solitude is also a big theme," Alfons Conde explains.

This sounds promising with the big, rumbling, type of score you might have been expecting, but also some surprises like a massive pipe organ. And. wait. do I detect a bit of the infamous lady-in-the-water-motif again? I believe I do.
(May 28th, 2008, Los Angeles, CA) AHI Records, to be distributed by BUYSOUNDTRAX Records, will be releasing a special 20th Anniversary Collector’s Edition of THEY LIVE. The soundtrack features music composed & performed by John Carpenter (HALLOWEEN, ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK) and Alan Howarth (THE LOST EMPIRE, HEADLESS) for the 1988 cult science fiction film written and directed by John Carpenter, from the short story “Eight O’Clock In The Morning” by Ray Nelson, starring Roddy Piper, Keith David, Meg Foster, Peter Jason, Raymond St. Jacques and the great George ‘Buck’ Flower.
Some thoughts about the trailer, the movie and the score. First, how weird is it to see the Warner Brothers logo precede the LucasFilm logo? Pretty weird, indeed. Second, I am wondering just how much "in-between-plot" is going to be able to hold our interest and not eventually conflict with the canon established in the films on some level. Third, while I'm keen to hear what composer Kevin Kiner will provide as a score. I still can't help but think that Mark Griskey would have done a spectacular job. I'll reserve judgement until August 15 or so. Check the full trailer here.
The Keys to the Kingdom Review by Christopher Coleman.
From the Wachowski brothers, creators of the groundbreaking “The Matrix” trilogy, comes the live-action, high-octane film “Speed Racer,” which follows the adventures of the young race car driver Speed in his quest for glory in his thunderous Mach 5. Joel Silver, who previously worked with the Wachowski brothers on “The Matrix” movies and “V for Vendetta,” is producing the film under his Silver Pictures banner. Grant Hill, Andy Wachowski and Larry Wachowski are also producing. David Lane Seltzer, Michael Lambert and Bruce Berman are the executive producers. “Speed Racer” stars Emile Hirsch (“Into the Wild”) in the title role; Christina Ricci (“Penelope”) as Speed’s girlfriend Trixie; John Goodman (“Evan Almighty”) and Oscar winner Susan Sarandon (“Dead Man Walking”) as Mom and Pops Racer; Matthew Fox (TV’s “Lost”) as the mysteriously masked Racer X; Benno Fürmann (“The Mutant Chronicles”) as Inspector Detector; Hiroyuki Sanada (“The Last Samurai”) as Mr. Musha; Asian pop superstar Rain, making his American feature film debut, as a rival driver named Taejo Togokahn; and Richard Roundtree (TV’s “Heroes,” “Shaft”) as Ben Burns. Based on the classic series created by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida, the live-action “Speed Racer” will showcase the kind of revolutionary visual effects and cutting-edge storytelling that have become the benchmarks of the Wachowski brothers’ films. “Speed Racer” is a Warner Bros. Pictures presentation, in association with Village Roadshow Pictures, of a Silver Pictures Production, in association with Anarchos Productions.

In 2005, with the film and film-music world still slightly abuzz over director Peter Jackson and composer Howard Shore's masterwork for the LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, came THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE. Between Jackson's epic trilogy and the HARRY POTTER franchise, the fantasy-genre was big-bucks again. However, with the well documented friendship between authors, J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis, specific comparisons between the two author's eventual film-adaptations were inevitable. Director Andrew Adamson's vision of C.S. Lewis' story was as different from Jackson's work as Tolkien's tale is from Lewis'. One of the key differences was reflected in the film's score by composer HARRY GREGSON-WILLIAMS. The unexpected modern-edge for THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE, especially in light of Shore's more operatic work, perhaps brought undue criticism from the soundtrack community upon the score (myself included). In the years since; however, as the Lord the Rings energies have simmered down, the first film from the land of Narnia, as well as it's score has become, for some, appreciated on its own merits rather than merely as a contrast to Howard Shore's work. again, myself included.

The Dark Knight Trailer #2 - More of the same.
Director Steven Spielberg was somewhat nervous in showing INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL at the Cannes Film Festival in 2008. and with good reason. Indiana Jones has become an undeniable, cinematic, icon. The films of the original trilogy are among the most beloved films of the 80s and remain so to this day. Bringing the franchise back some 20 years later was a risky venture. Would an aging Indy still appeal to the generation who first fell for him? Would bringing a feisty-son-sidekick, attract the generation born since RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK first thrilled audiences in 1981? Valid questions. Now, for the film music community, another equally valid question has been whether composer John Williams could recapture the adventurous magic he helped to create decades ago.
The Second Tenerife International Film Music Festival is a unique one in Europe, directed by the Spanish composer Diego Navarro and sponsored by the Island Council and the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council Culture Commission.
It's been a while since RANDY EDELMAN has done a big-budget, action film. I'm more than a little intrigued about what he will produce here. Once again he teams up with Rob Cohen and his thematic prowess is legendary (Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, Dragonheart, Gettysburg) so we know he'll deliver in that department. But those 1990-synths will most likely not cut the hot-mustard, so I'm hoping for a full symphonic extravaganza. Oh. and I'm not entirely sure of the music used in the trailer, but it sounds like production-music and not anything from Mr. Edelman.
The first 100 copies will be autographed by Co-Composer Alan Howarth.

. more of the same music. That is. The second full length trailer for, what seems to be, the most anticipated film of the Summer, has just been posted. In a Summer full of potential super-blockbusters, THE DARK KNIGHT has the masses in the palm of their viral-marketing palms. Admittedly, this does look like it is going to soar above the rest of the Summer line-up as director Christopher Nolan is putting himself in a class by himself. Heath Ledger's performance looks as though it will be unforgettable. He'll be sorely missed.

Sometime in the not-to-distant-past, the official site for the upcoming film, WANTED, was updated with a few cool goodies. Included on this flash site is some music from composer DANNY ELFMAN. It certainly has some Spidey-vibe, but what's there thus far, sounds to be an improvement and likely more fitting for a film like WANTED, that it was for our favorite web-slinging hero.
Win THE DARK KNIGHT Poster Print.
The evocative score was composed by Olivier Deriviere (Obscure) and performed by world-famous, Grammy Award-winning choir The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices. The result is an energetic, memorable score that mixes orchestration with the unique sound of The Mystery of Bulgarian Voices.
