Bring back memories :). Great, legendary game, but unplayable version. You will have to read a lot of forums, make a lot of tuning, install fixes, etc. And it's still will barely work.. One of my childhood favorite games. I guess it's harder for younger gamers to accept the 90's quality of graphics, and lack of options in battle, but trust me, it's a great game. You don't have to play it, but please know it for a fact.. Damn nice game, be sure to change the install path from the disciples.ini to get the game working perfectly. Seriously though, there is a patch that solves most issues and makes it playable. It is easy to compare it to Heroes of Might and Magic 1, and while they are both slightly different, they both do the same thing. I didn't play past the tutorial mission so I am sure there is more to discover, but I got the basic game play down, and it is absolutely well made.

It is hard to choose if to recommend the game or not, but I think it is also important to review games from today's stand point and not from the time it was released. so I am gonna go with a thumb down. It is still a good game and if you want to take a trip down memory lane, you will not be disappointed.

In my opinion, sometimes they seem to bog the player down managing trivial details such as repairing armor, managing backpack space, and the narrative falls far behind. I was pleased to see that this game has an interesting campaign and the gameplay does not bog the player down in senseless micromanaging.

Disciples Gold: Sacred Lands is a pretty good, but dated game. I bought this on a steam sale for $0.79, and I think it will yield many great hours of gameplay. The game seems pretty well done as far as the presentation is concerned. The game play took a little bit of figuring out, but I'd say I've pretty well got it now and I've never read the manual. To me, it reminds me a little bit of warcraft when it comes to the overworld and resource management. The fights play out like a simplified version of a turn based game. You do not really control what actions the players take or the order in which they take turns, but you control who they attack or heal, as well as the ability to skip players or run away. So, in some regards, it plays out like a top down Strategy RPG, but instead of the fight actions being represented merely as points of damage, it goes to a separate fight mode where the player has the ability to influence the outcome of fights. Then after the fight is done, it goes back to the overworld.

All in all, I'd recommend the game, especially if you can get it on sale. 79 cents is a steal, and I'll be looking forward to playing more of this game.. Good old fashioned turn based strategy game. A bit tricky to get it running on Win10 (support forums are a great help) and certainly has some stability issues (also doesn't run in a higher resolution than 640*480). Still worth it, if only for the nostalgia bit.
