Developers of an offshore wind farm close to eastern Long Island presented an idea to bring power to Long Island via a cable that would create landfall at Smith Point County Park on Shoot Island.

Representatives from Orsted and also Eversource responded this weeks time to community concerns within the location of the power line and its impacts for their community — both with land and at beach.

John Case, the overseer of permitting at Eversource Electricity, said the power wire would come on-shore while in the parking area of Smith Point Park and run down the William Floyd Parkway to a power substation in Holbrook.

"When we’re evaluating routes for our on-shore cables, we take a look at many criteria from technical feasibility, and human, social impacts, as well as environmental impacts, and we make an effort to balance all of those people, " Case said.

The developers said there're working with the in a niche community of Brookhaven, Suffolk County and state officials to make a 20-year package of benefits with the residents to offset page views and construction impacts.

They said they also look to bring different economic benefits to alternative towns by sourcing community materials, employing Long Isle contractors, and hiring local union labor for building.

Mike Evans, the permitting manager at Orsted, said the plans for that Sunrise Wind project based 30 miles east associated with Montauk point were evaluated by the us government.

Evans said their prepare mitigates environmental impacts in addition to protects marine life.

“We’re devoted to doing collaborative science, using the services of the recreational fishing market sectors to conduct monitoring, prior to, during, and after design, " Evans said. "We’ll be designing the project in avoiding and minimize any from the sensitive habitats, like very difficult bottom areas and seagrass places. We’ll be using equipment to minimize these impacts by drilling underneath this intercoastal or drilling underneath the beach in avoiding impacts there. ”.
