New Delhi: The markets of the city have seen an influx of Chinese mobile signal jammers, contravening the regulations established by the Cabinet Secretariat that forbid individuals from using or selling such devices. Recently, law enforcement authorities confiscated an illegal jammer from Palika Market located in Connaught Place.
The authorities are currently probing the origins of these unlawful jammers and are in pursuit of potential purchasers, particularly in light of the recent explosions in Prashant Vihar, Rohini, and the looming threat of terrorism. There is a suspicion among the police that a more extensive network may be engaged in the importation of these gsm blocker to interfere with communication systems. It is important to highlight that Palika Market and New Lajpat Rai Market are recognized for their sale of inexpensive electronic goods, which often include pirated and counterfeit items.
On October 24, the police in Connaught Place apprehended a shopkeeper for the illegal possession of a mobile signal jammer, an action taken in response to increased security concerns.
The individual, recognized as Ravi Shankar Mathur, aged 58, was discovered with a Chinese-manufactured jammer that has the capability to disrupt mobile phone signals. Law enforcement officials located the device alongside various components, which included ten antennas and an electrical connecting wire, within a shop situated in Palika Bazar.
Upon inquiry, Mathur was unable to provide any documentation, including bills or licenses, to substantiate his possession of the mini gps jammer. He asserted that he purchased the device from the New Rajpath Rai market for Rs 25,000, intending to resell it at a profit.
A seizure memorandum documented the confiscated items, which comprised a silver-grey jammer measuring 30x13 cm, equipped with 10 antenna jacks suitable for multiple mobile technologies, along with a manual that outlined the device's specifications and installation procedures.
The Department of Telecommunications has received notification regarding the initiation of additional investigations into Mathur, along with the intention to pursue suitable legal measures against him.
