Choosing the Right Cell Phone Packages

As a former mobile phone salesman I know that there are a number of things to consider when you are comparing mobile phone packages. The purpose of this article is to give you an idea of the things that you should consider before getting a new mobile phone. There are a wide variety of different handsets and mobile phone myphonepackages.compackages available, so it is important for you to consider the different possibilities before you make your choice.

Contract or Pay as you go?
A CONTRACT is where a mobile phone is given to you, often for free, and you agree to pay a set amount of money every month for a set period. Within the set cost of the contract mobile phone packages, you will have a set amount of text messages and set amount of phone call minutes that you can make every month. For example, you may agree to pay £35 a month, every month for an 18 month period. In return you may get 500 anytime minutes and 500 text messages along with a free handset of your choice (from a set selection). If in any given month you exceed your 500 call minutes or 500 text messages, you will be charged for each call minute or text message used above your allowance at a set price.

PAY AS YOU GO (PAYG) is where you pick a handset and pay a fee for the handset up front. You have no commitment to pay a set fee over a set period. In order for you to use the handset you have to pay for credit. This will then allow you to make calls and send text messages until the credit runs out. You will then have to put more credit on your phone before you can make any calls or send any text message again.

If you decide that you want to go with one of the PAYG mobile phone packages, then generally you should not expect to spend more than £15 a month topping up your phone. If you find yourself spending more than this, you should look at getting one of the contract mobile phone packages because you will get much more value for your money.

Mobile Usage:-
If you decide you want to get one of the contract mobile phone packages, then before you choose a handset, you should consider how much you will be using your phone for calls and texts in order for you to select the correct tariff. If you underestimate your usage, and exceed your set amount of phone calls and text messages per month, you will end up receiving a bill far greater than your agreed set monthly fee. Therefore it is always important to ensure you pick a tariff with enough call minutes and text messages every month, ensuring that you do not exceed your agreed monthly fee. If you are already on a contract and looking to get a new deal, check your last 3 invoices to see on average how many calls and text messages you are using. This will give you an indication of exactly how many minutes and texts you need allowing you to select the right tariff. If you have never had a contract before, then simply think about the amount of call minutes and texts you think you will use per day, and multiply this number by 30. This will give you an indication of how much usage you will need each month from your monthly plan.

Handsets:-
When you are looking at mobile phone packages, I would usually suggest to find a suitable monthly plan before picking a handset. (This is, unless there is a specific handset that you are looking for, in which case you will have to find a plan to match the handset.) Once you have selected your desired call plan, you will have a variety of mobile phones to choose from. Some may be free, but there may also be a cost for some others. I would suggest picking a handset that matches the specifications that you need. For example, if taking pictures is important to you, choose a phone with a good camera. If listening to music is important to you, choose a phone with large memory to store lots of songs.

The mobile phone market has grown significantly into a multi-million pound industry.
