Car Rental Agencies - The Timeline Travelled
How it all Began
Car rental agencies have been about for a long time. It all started in Chicago. In the 1930's it was some railway companies that grouped together to provide cars to be rented by their customers who would rather not travel on a train. Initially it was thought that only bank robbers and other unsavory characters that had a need for renting cars. Due to this car rental agencies were looked at with upturned noses back then. The industry got a comeback in 1933 when the 18th amendment was repealed. The 18th amendment banned alcoholic beverages. It was replaced by the 21st amendment. The railway and the car rental agencies teamed up so that their customers could benefit from both. They could rent a car as they came off the train and leave a rented car behind as they prepared to board a train. It was a win, win situation for both parties.
Their Evolution
Rental car agencies have come a far way since the 1900's. they can now be found everywhere and not only at train stations, they can be found at transportations centers which have passengers coming off of trains, buses, subways etc and they can also be found at airports. A couple years ago one would have to wait until they got to their destination to choose and pay for their rental cars.
This is no longer the case as with the emergence of the internet people can now find what they want and make their payments online with the only thing left to do once they reach their destination being to pick up the keys and drive off. Not only do car rental agencies have their own websites but they also can be found on other sites such as travel sites which allow you to book airline tickets, hotels and to rent cars. Using these websites when booking cars for rental is a great way of saving money as the prices for booking online are usually cheaper than the price you would pay if you waited until you arrived at your destination to get the car. Having the services of car rental agencies so ready and affordable gives everyone a bang for their buck; families, and individuals on leisure as well as business travel.
Car rental agencies have come a long way from their humble and not so likable beginnings in the 1900's. Gone are the days when the upper class would turn up their noses to car rental agencies as nowadays getting the services of a car rental agency is common place. People use these companies as ways to making their travel and lives easier and cheaper. In today's world where mobility is a must the services of these companies are welcomed and cherished and when patrons get good customer service they keep coming back for more and they serve as marketing tools as they tell their friends and families of the good service they received.
