The Joker and Harley have neutralized Superman's powers. Bane and Superman must now fight to the death as Clark's high-school sweet-heart, Lana Lang, is captivated.
When is a fan film not just a fan film? Answer: when it's a showcase.( I'm reminded of how Batman Dead End worked better as a director's showcase then as a stand alone film.) I'll grant you that some fan films have an inventive fresh take but this one certainly ain't like that. Honestly, I rarely see bold inventions on a micro-budget that I actually like. Spoiler Alert: ( The Joker does randomly shoot a Gene Hackman grinning Lex Luthor in the head in this one-- which was a shocker.-- Perhaps a not so subtle commentary on wanting to kill Eisenberg? hmm. Don't mean to get ahead of myself here. The very title Bane v Superman : The Movie is a smash mix onto itself. Which begs the question is the title setting us up for an exploration on how the older films fit with in the style of the recent Suicide Squad or Batman v Superman? Am I reading too much into this? No, I think not. This movie plays like a parody you're meant to take seriously. It's an intentional Hodge-Page of greatest hits from Batman and Superman movies of the past, for better or worse. Bane v Superman: The Movie succeeds as a commentary on what's gone on with these movies before. It's lead actor/ director seems to be saying something about what's good and bad about the Batman/ Superman cinematic universe from the past as he jacks it up 2016 style. If it sounds convoluted it's not. In fact the over all concept is deceptively slight and overly simple. I believe it's only unique contribution is the unexpected mix expected of stuff you've seen before.

Keith Stahle is an clearly an actor first foremost. (He might not be his own best director though as the movie has him playing multiple roles.) He obviously has talent and he's eager to impress us with it but I kind of wonder if his own material is beneath his own acting ability.) Specifically there's a towering impression of Jack Nicholson's Joker that makes you laugh while still being scary. That's quite an accomplishment given the bad rap Heath's Joker gave Jack's. He plays a guy with two faces without even showing his face once. Another intrigue is a walk on from Jim Carrey's Riddler that I wish we'd seen more of cause Stahle seemed to be goofing on Carrey's approach. He's also some kind of Michael Keaton style costume meets Jean Claude Van-Damme jump spin kicking Batman ( in 80's style slow motion no less but hey at least a Batman actor finally did all of his own martial arts stunt work). Don't worry there's more. He also can't help throwing his voice into Bane (and he couldn't resist hitting us with a Christopher Walken Max Shreck voice after the credits.) Finally his Superman is a strong anchor and a dead weight but that's always the case with this character. As usual he's two dimension ally tough guy meets cry baby dork and I have to think that here he's making a commentary on the result of past portrayals as well. Superman's powers are super-cool but the goo die two shoes hero always makes for a boring character AND no actor has convinced me otherwise though this guy comes pretty close. (Supes voice actually sounded a bit like Val Kilmer in this though, at least to me). His Clark Kent is somewhat redeeming particularly because he borrows from Christopher Reeve's voice as well as Reeve's adjust-the-glasses routine. ( I guess the beard in the snow scene was suppose to remind us of Henry Cavill ). Lastly, my favorite Stahle character in this medley was the Marlon Brando Jor-El that he pulls of with alarming ease. It seriously did blow my mind. Suddenly he's Brando out of the blue. It was my favorite part cause it was spot on and around this time it made it crystal clear to me this movie wasn't taking itself seriously and it was also at that point I have to admit it had won me over as I wasn't expecting anything like that.

There's lots of other familiar characters. Janelle Giebel is perhaps a little green as an actress but she shows good range potential as she's also is in multiple parts as Harley (with a voice right from the cartoon series) as well as Lois Lane that seems like a mix of Margot Kidder and "look at me I'm too young for my job" (aka Katie Holmes.) Her Lana Lang is sympathetic however and reminds me of something of a small vile meets a soft and sweet Amy Adams (something the latter's tough as nails Lois Lane is lacking). Don't forget a Tom Hardy's Bane, Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman as well as an Uma Thurman Poison Ivy and even a Lynda Carter Wonder Woman all make appearances too. ( Appearance being the key word as they're mostly there in image alone.) The Bane looks solid and a lot like DKR but seems to be a bit more like that stupid brute version from the Clooney-Thurman movie. Bane isn't bright in this one, he's more or less is just a soldier and the muscle to Joker's evil plan. The Catwoman looks like Pfeiffer in cowl but somehow goes through Anne Hathaway circumstances? Sounds confusing-- right? Well it's not. Provided you've watched the original movies way too many times and you enjoy the idea of revisiting them all together. "Bane v Superman: The Movie" is a 35-minute live action short film from this year (2016) written and directed by Keith Stahle. He also plays several characters in here, including Batman, who just has a scene early on, and Superman / Clark Kent who has many more scenes. And he also plays the Joker for example and several others. This may not have been the best decision as I found Stahle only convincing as the Joker and honestly this is a character where you can do not that much wrong. Casting another actor would have been a better decision. Janelle Giebel, on the other hand, is more convincing as Lois Lane and Harley Quinn and even makes some of the embarrassing dialogues work. Bane, the other title character, is a big disappointment as the performance was utterly forgettable and eventually nothing stays in terms of him other than the costume. The good thing about this fan film is that it is easy to understand and that is not always the case with these fan-made movie, but this is also the only good thing I can really say here. Story-wise, it is underwhelming and overall same can be said about the script and to a lesser extent about the performances. Maybe they should have kept this movie at half the runtime max. I don't recommend the watch.
