Ayurvedic Treatment For Hyperphosphatemia

Overview To High Phosphorus

High levels of phosphorus or phosphate — in the blood is known as hyperphosphatemia. Phosphate is basically an electrolyte, which is an electrically charged substance that contains the mineral phosphorus.

Our body needs some phosphate for the strengthening of our bones and teeth, to produce energy, and build cell membranes. But if the daily required value exceeds, phosphate can cause bone and muscle problems and increase your risk for heart attacks and strokes.

A high phosphorus level is usually an indication of kidney disorder. It is basically seen in people with chronic kidney disease, especially in those who are at the last stage of kidney disease.

Modern biological science has different ways of treating this disease. While on the other hand ayurvedic treatment for high phosphorus is also available.

What are its symptoms?

Most of the people with high phosphorus levels don’t have any signs or symptoms. In some people with chronic kidney disorder, high phosphorus levels cause calcium levels in the blood to drop to a certain extent.

Symptoms of low calcium may include:

  • muscle cramps
  • Tingling and numbness around the mouth
  • bone and joint pain
  • weak bones
  • rashes
  • itchy skin

How are high phosphate and bone disease related to each other?

Phosphorus works with calcium and vitamin D in the body to keep our bones healthy and strong enough. For this, our body’s phosphorus, calcium, and vitamin D all need to be in the required amount.

Too much phosphorus in your blood, causes your body to extract calcium from your bones to try and keep your blood balanced. This causes the bones to become weak and unhealthy. Unhealthy bones put you at higher risk of breaks, fractures, and other issues.

What are the causes of it?

Most people usually get around 850 to 1,200 milligrams of phosphorus daily from food items like red meat, dairy, chicken, fish, and cereal. In the human body, phosphorus is mainly found in the bones and teeth, and in very small amounts in the blood also.

Our kidneys help to remove extra phosphorus from the body to keep the levels in balance. When the kidneys are damaged, our body can’t remove phosphate from the blood quickly enough. This can lead to chronically increased levels of phosphate.

Other causes of hyperphosphatemia include:

  • low parathyroid hormone levels
  • damage to cells
  • high vitamin D levels
  • injuries that cause muscle damage.
  • serious body-wide infections

How is it treated?

A blood test identifies whether you have high phosphorus levels.

If kidneys are damaged, you can lower high blood phosphorus levels in three different ways:

  • Cut down the amount of phosphate in your diet
  •  extra phosphate can be removed with dialysis
  • lower the amount of phosphate using medicines

Firstly, avoid or limit foods that are rich in phosphorus, such as:

  • milk
  • red meat
  • packaged meats
  • frozen meals
  • snack products
  • processed cheeses
  • additives and preservatives
  • Bread

It’s very important to maintain a diet of healthy foods that balance protein with phosphorus. These include chicken, fish, nuts, beans, and eggs.

Diet alone probably won’t lower the phosphate levels enough to fix the problem. You may also need dialysis. Dialysis takes over for the damaged kidneys. It removes salt, extra fluid, and chemicals like phosphorus from your blood.

In addition to diet and dialysis, you may need medicines to help the body filter excess phosphorus. A few drugs help to reduce the amount of phosphate your intestines absorb from foods you eat. Ayurvedic medicines for high phosphorus are also an option for curing this problem.

Preventions of high phosphate?

Hyperphosphatemia is often a problem of chronic kidney disorder. One of the ways to reduce your risk is by slowing kidney damage. Protect your kidneys by treating the actual cause of your kidney disease.

  • High blood pressure weakens the blood vessels that supply oxygenated blood to the kidneys. Taking blood pressure medications can lower blood pressure and protect the kidneys.
  • Extra fluid in the body can overwhelm your damaged kidneys. Taking a water pill can help to restore the correct fluid balance in the body.

High phosphate levels in the blood will increase your risk for serious medical problems and other serious problems. Treating hyperphosphatemia with diet changes and medicines as soon as possible can prevent these complications. Getting treated earliest can also slow bone problems linked to chronic kidney disease.

Ayurvedic treatment of high phosphorus
