Someday we will likely hear about a study of bankruptcy case filings comparing those adults who have received their COVID-19 vaccinations and those adults who remain unvaccinated. You might be wondering why such a case study may be relevant?

Historically, there are about 4,000 personal bankruptcies filed in Northwestern Ohio annually. Medical debts remain one of the top four reasons why people seek bankruptcy relief from their mounting debts. In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, one can discharge their medical debts as well as many other unsecured debts such as credit cards and vehicle repossessions.

With the Delta variant swiftly moving across the United States, many areas are feeling the surge with increased hospitalizations and e\/en deaths. Hospitalized COVID-19 patients have an average hospital stay of 2 weeks or more, amounting to huge medical debts.

This blog is not taking a position on the efficacy of the COVID-19 vaccination. As always, it is a personal choice as to whether or not to get the COVID-19 vaccine. If scientists are correct that the vaccine is the best route, then those who remain unvaccinated increase their chances of contracting COVID-19 as well as the costly medical debts associated with it. Just imagine that you are home after a COVID-19 hospitalization and in your mail is a hospital bill for $100,000.00. What would you do? For many people, Chapter 7 bankruptcy may be the answer.

Again, we are not aware of any pending case studies comparing bankruptcy cases filed by vaccinated adults and unvaccinated adults. However, I think this would make an interesting study and is something to think about.
