Ambien belongs to the family of medications known as sedatives or hypnotics and is a Central nervous system depressant, which means it slows down the brain activity of the patient. Unlike any other central nervous system, depressant, Ambien affects the brain of the user in the same way by enhancing the activity of gamma-aminobutyric acid, commonly known as GABA. It is a naturally occurring chemical present in the brain which sends messages to the neurotransmitter slowing down the activity of the brain. Since CNS depressants increase the activity of GABA chemicals in the people taking this medication for recreational purposes. This effect of Ambien produces a drowsy and calming influence in the patients abusing this medication.
Ambien is a sleeping medication that is used for treating sleeping disorders, which hits the peak blood concentration of itself within 30 minutes of use. Thus we could consider it as a quickly affecting medication. However, people using this medication for treatment or recreational use should know that it is a medication to treat insomnia; hence, the effect of it starts ending quickly. The half-life of Ambien is 1.5 hours, which means a half dose of this medication leaves the users' system during this time. The effect of Ambien orAmbien high could last for about 8 hours after usage. Still, the entire drug could take up to 14 hours to entirely leave the user's system.
