AI-Enabled RF Semiconductors Accelerating Revenue of Businesses

Largescale adoption of radio frequency (RF) semiconductors can be owed to the high penetration of smartphones. The usage of smartphones is rapidly increasing in developed as well as developing countries. The emerging economies, such as India, Nigeria, Indonesia, Pakistan, and China, are witnessing a significant rise in number of smartphone customers. This is attributed to the rising disposable income of the middle-class population and surging urbanization rate in these countries.

Moreover, the widespread integration of internet of things (IoT) in the telecom sector to increase network capacity, will fuel the RF semiconductor market at a CAGR of 8.8% during 2020–2030. The market was valued at $2.1 billion in 2019 and it is expected to reach $5.0 billion by 2030. IoT helps in building an interconnected network of physical entities, such as smart devices, through secure networks, by using RF technologies. For example, RF transceivers are installed in smart home appliances to connect with the internet using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth.

Besides, the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) technology has also fueled the utilization of RF semiconductor devices, globally. AI-enabled RF semiconductor devices helps in boosting revenue generation of businesses by improving customer experience and enabling predictive maintenance, to enhance network reliability. AI can optimize RF parameters, such as antenna sensitivity, spectrum monitoring, and channel bandwidth, and reduce the complexities in the design of RF semiconductor devices by using effective machine learning (ML) algorithms. Additionally, this new technology is also unlocking novel capabilities in military applications.

In recent years, the information technology (IT) and telecommunications sector has been the largest user of RF semiconductor components, due to the soaring data consumption, which requires continuous upgradation of telecom networks. Therefore, the booming number of 5G deals being signed by network providers and the improving mobile devices sector will accelerate the consumption of RF semiconductor devices in the IT and telecom industry, in the near future. This industry along with the consumer electronics sector use power amplifiers in large quantities to produce their equipment.
