Formula for Development Length

the Formula for development length is provided in both Indian standard IS 456:2000 and American Standard ACI 318-14. In this article, we will learn about the formula for development length as per IS 456:2000

As per IS-456:2000 Clause 26.2.1, the development length Ld is given by

Ld = ( Ø σs ) / 4 τbd

OR

Ld = (Nominal dia of steel x Stress in the bar at the section considered at design load) / ( 4 x Design bond stress (Will be extracted from Table 26.2.1.1)

Where,

Ø = nominal dia of reinforcement bar;

σs = Stress in the bar at the section considered at design load;

τbd = Design bond stress (Will be extracted from Table 26.2.1.1)
