It is a powerful teaching that helps us remember our true identity and our connection with God. It is a very practical and realistic approach to spiritual development.
What is a Course in Miracles?

A course in miracles (ACIM) is a 1250-page, three volume book that is both an intellectual and spiritual exercise. It is a self-study system of'spiritual psychology', and was first published in 1976 by the Foundation for Inner Peace, with over three million copies of this little gem sold worldwide. acim now app

It is also the first of its kind, incorporating many of the 'new age' trends that have made their way into our society over the past few decades, including the popularity of yoga, meditation and other mind-body disciplines. It combines the best of spiritual inspiration and psychological understanding in a thought system that is both sophisticated and entertaining.

Having experienced a miraculous transformation through the application of these principles, Patrick has devoted his professional life to researching and writing about the spiritual, health and healing fields, and promoting the nirvana that lies within us all. His articles have been published in many leading publications including YOGA JOURNAL, THE SUN and Elephant Journal online.

He is a long time ACIM student and maintains a regular column on this website about the subject called "miracles of course". The site is updated several times a day and includes many interesting articles, including the latest on this page.
A Course in Miracles is a spiritual teaching

A Course in Miracles is a spiritual teaching that can help people improve their lives and experience healing on a deep level. It is a thought system that uses Christian terminology, but also evokes universal, non-dual spiritual themes.

Its metaphysics are more aligned with Eastern mysticism than traditional Western religion. In fact, it directly challenges some aspects of contemporary Christianity. It is ecumenical in nature and states that it is "only one of many thousands of spiritual paths."

The Course uses both an intellectual and an experiential approach within its 650-page Text (laying out the concepts that make up its thought system) and its 500-page Workbook for Students, which prescribes a daily transformative discipline that emphasizes experience instead of belief in a theology. It also includes a 90-page Manual for Teachers, which adds a variety of insights useful to advanced practitioners.

When you study a Course in Miracles, you will learn to think in correspondence with the natural experience of the Wholly-Spiritual Universe. This is a spiritual process that will lead you to the highest goal of your life, which is to transcend this world.

You will be taught to remove the blocks that are keeping you from this reality, and to direct your mind and emotions in feeling how you wish at any time. This is a life-changing process that will lead you to your personal happiness, peace of mind and the ability to experience daily miracles as you progress along this path.

This course is a deeply personalised course, with each lesson addressing your own specific situation and issues. Therefore, it is essential that you purchase and read your own copy of the Course to ensure that you can understand all the lessons fully.

A Course in Miracles was first published in 1976 by the Foundation for Inner Peace. It was written down in shorthand from 1965 to 1972 by Helen Schucman, a research psychologist at Columbia University. It was dictated to her supervisor, William Thetford, who typed the manuscript.
A Course in Miracles is not a religion

A Course in Miracles is a spiritual teaching that has impacted thousands of people around the world. It is an intellectually sophisticated thought system combining spiritual inspiration with deep psychological understanding of such phenomena as belief and defense systems, perception and identity.

It is a system that can be learned through a teacher who guides students through a series of video lessons. These videos unlock and expand the thought system, first espoused by Jesus in His Sermon on the Mount and demonstrated as divine truth through His resurrection.

The system is based on a non-dualistic metaphysics, which teaches that the physical universe was not created by God. This is contrary to the beliefs of all New Age thought systems, which teach that the physical universe was created by God.

Moreover, A Course in Miracles does not promote the idea of "prosperity consciousness," which is a common belief in New Age thought systems. Instead, the Course teaches that all human beings are destined to find their true selves and achieve full God-realization.

One of the biggest mistakes made in interpreting A Course in Miracles is to mix it with other mystical traditions and ideas. This does the system a great disservice, for it blurs its distinctive contribution to the world's spiritualities: the psychological principle that God did not create the physical universe and, in fact, that it was created as an attack on Him (W-pII.3.2:1).

It is this principle that distinguishes A Course in Miracles from all other mystical thought systems. It is also the reason why it has a unique relationship to Christianity and to other Christian denominations.

For this reason, a Christian cannot in good faith consider A Course in Miracles as his or her spiritual source of information. Nevertheless, many Catholics have been drawn to the course, as it has become popular among a wide variety of people and religious groups.

The course is a study curriculum that consists of three books: the Text, the Workbook for Students, and the Manual for Teachers. The Text lays out the principles of the thought system; the Workbook focuses on daily practice and emphasizes experience; and the Manual provides answers to questions frequently asked by students.
A Course in Miracles is not a book

The question of whether or not a Course in Miracles is a book has long been a contentious issue. On one hand, there are those who believe that Helen Schucman was the actual author of the Course and that she dictated all of its words to Jesus of Nazareth.

On the other hand, there are those who do not think that it is possible for a person to receive a direct message from Jesus of Nazareth and to write it down word for word. They find it implausible that the historical Jesus would speak his thoughts to a human "scribe" and then turn them into the text of a book that has been translated into 27 languages and sold worldwide.

A Course in Miracles uses Christian terminology and symbols, but it also evokes universal, non-dual spiritual themes, including Eastern philosophy and religions. It is a progressive path of awakening that does not claim to be the only spiritual path to God.

Unlike New Age thought systems, A Course in Miracles does not teach that the universe was created by God or that the physical body is an attack on God. It teaches that we are created from love and that love is the source of all things.

In addition, A Course in Miracles does not promote the teaching of “prosperity consciousness,” a popular principle in New Age thought systems that focuses on money and material goods. Instead, it emphasizes the idea that we are all connected through a single source of existence, the mind.

This is an important difference because true nondual teaching sees consciousness as pure oneness, the absolute. This is why a Course in Miracles teaching that calls the world of the ego and the body separate and unreal does not resonate with true nondual teachers.

The best way to learn how to read and understand A Course in Miracles is to read it from a nondual perspective. This may take some time, but it is well worth it. It can open your heart to a greater experience of God and help you to understand what a Course in Miracles is all about.
